We could build whatever engine and trans your little heart desires. No matter how much it costs. SmileWavy

Wow, thanks!

Find your favorite liberal and ask him how to run a deficit........

porsche4life 05-13-2014 12:25 PM

I understand the concept, but I don't see having 30k in a 77 that still needs paint. ;)

Formula Vee

Find a nice formula vee and all the gear you need and go to auto X and track days for the fun of it

If you had $10,000 to spend..........

I would go and get the free 1969 camaro my cousin offered me.

Id probably buy or build a nice Miata to go hpde'ing in .

Ive always wanted some sort of sleeper as well. Id love to have an e46 wagon with the m3 drivetrain swaped in. Probably a strech for 10 though

I'll add one more vote for a 914.

A VW Thing would be cool too.

porsche4life 05-13-2014 01:11 PM

I've got a sweet green '69 Bug I'd sell you for less than 10k... ;)

Now there you go exaggerating again. I figured we could do it for $ 29.5K. That is if the engine was nothing special, of course.:)

That's easy for me... I wanted to spend about the same for this season. I'm working on it right now.

I think the early (2002) Bimmers are very cool. Would probably paint it white with blue and red angled fender stripe. I also very much like the 635 CS cars, though they are a bit more of a grand touring car than a hot street coupe.

Super 7.........

That would be lots of fun except that I'm over 6 ft tall and getting into a Super 7 is like putting on a pair of tights. A removeable steering wheel helps. One of the neat things about a Super 7 is that in case of an accident it can double as a casket.

tedg04 05-13-2014 02:27 PM

A Datsun 510 or early Z would be cool too. Even an old beetle. In the family, you could do a 951 project on $10k too.

Cool thread.

About 12 months ago, I bought an '67 El Camino for around $3k. It drove great, with a cammed 350 and TH350 combo, tuned length headers with Cherrybombs and side exits, but had scruffy paint and interior (all humidity blisters in the paint). It's not quite a beater, the body was rust free and relatively straight, so we knocked out a couple of dents, pulled the lights/grille and as much of the trim as we could, rubbed it back and shot it with several coats of black primer at my friend's shop.

I found an Chevelle vinyl bench in mint condition on craigslist, cleaned up the insides, new brake cylinders and threw on a booster, did the tierods, balljoints and bushings and boom! A great parts-getter - and one I find myself driving more than I would care to admit. It's loud as hell, looks meaner than snot and is hilarious to drive.

It maybe owes me less than $4k. However...

I've seen Classic Performance Products does Pro-Touring kits for these old piles and now I'm inspired to drop ~$4k more into it to give it the handling and high-end braking that I want. It will likely need to have 17" wheels to clear the brakes I want. It's a dirt cheap starting point and will look a lot like this once it's finished.

I'll start an OT build thread when I get really stuck into it if anyone is interested.

I like your thinking.
