Facetime - iPhone to Samsung Galaxy - can do?

Daughter is doing a internship in Asia for three months.
We are all on T-Mobile.
She has iPhone 5
We have Samsung Galaxy S2 (me) and a Samsung Note (wife).
Time difference may make this impractical but...
Is there anyway we can facetime between the two (iPhone to Samsung)? My brother has deep pocket so his family is on AT&T and has iPhone's and I have seen them do facetime on holidays with his kids.
Facetime = iPhone to Android yes/no?

PS, Would a Samsung Galaxy 4 be able to facetime with an iPhone? (my chance to lobby for an upgrade from my S2 )

Thanks in advance.

No... Facetime is an APPLE software and system. You can still video chat, just not through facetime. You'll have to use something like Skype, which any phone with a forward facing camera should be able to do.

So, Skype on iPhone + Skype on android = video chat?

Pretty sure my Galaxy S2 has a forward camera... not into selfies but think at one time I was taking a picture and inadvertently pushed a button that flipped the camera.

Google Hangouts will work for video calls. I'm an Android fan in an Apple family. I've not messed with it much on my wife's Iphone beyond the install, but my eleven year old has no problems texting me or initiating a video call from her Ipod as long as she has a strong WiFi signal. -J

Apparently Skype is $$$?

Wife is good friends with Sis-in-law so they could arrange facetime with their two iPones.

Not sure what the time diff is going to be between SoCal and India so may not be practical to video chat anyway.

We checked with T-Mobile and text/talk is free with our plan.

No, it's free.

As noted on WIIF = no data charges.

I have an unlimited data plan so I don't care and use it all day for business calls including my Japanese clients.

What SM said.
I have used skype to talk to potential customers outside of the USA. It can be a little glitchy depending on your service but overall I was happy with it.

Step back from your iPhones boys. Skype works really well. I use it mainly for text internationally but the video works very well. And it is free - and multi-platform.

Clarify with your carrier what's free. Usually it's free when within their own network. When one is in India that other person is now "roaming". Roaming charges apply.

Or I could be behind the times and there are no such thing as roaming charges anymore.

When you make Skype to Skype calls on WIFI it's free.

If you do it using cellular data it will count against your data plan.

You can also use Skype to call make phone calls to non Skype mobile and landlines. That costs money.

So if you use it right it's free.

6:30am here is 7pm there.

Just because text/talk is free here doesn't mean it's free when roaming internationally - I've never heard of free intl roaming. Double check that. For Verizon and ATT for our business users it's $2/min, $.05 for every received text and $.25 for every sent text, $.50 I think for picture messages, and about $20/100MB. It adds up fast. And that if you call in and add an intl package. If you forget to do that it's way more!
