Its not just the women who are fat, its everyone. Its our culture now. We eat too much, plain and simple. Just You Tube Soul Train or American Bandstand from the 70's and everyone is thin.

I blame Queen.

Sugar, other carbs, processed food are to blame. When the "low fat is good" mentality hit years ago (food pyramid), it became okay to eat more crackers, breads, and other things that mess with our endocrine system. Sugar is everywhere. Keep track of how much you eat in a day (cereal, drinks, condiments, sauces, dressings, etc) and you'll be shocked.

Cheap processed foods + less time for healthy prepared meals + couch potato/screen addictions = larger society

Only going to become a bigger problem as fat kids become fat unhealthy adults.

U.S. Obesity is widely criticized in Europe, and a common joke on variety television. My wife and I spend a lot of time in there for business and it's embarrassing.

On our last trip, on the Subway in Paris, an overweight couple probably in their 40's, got on outside the Museum of National Resistance. A guy sitting behind us muttered "Americans" and the several people within hearing distance all chuckled. My wife and I are thin, and obviously hadn't spoken, or he might not have said it. I was hoping so badly that they would start speaking some language other than English. No such luck. They were Americans.

Unfortunately, its true. During our travels, most of the significantly overweight people we see turn out to be from the US.

Plenty of rich women/people in NYC too. Plus the young and active in Boulder and Portland that some of us (me!) enjoy watching jog and wear yoga pants aren't exactly on food stamps.

There was once a day when the poor were thin and the rich were plump...

A century ago it was economic. Now it correlates strongly to education.

This is very true. I find myself (5'8" 170#, 40" coat 34" waist) on the hefty side at work and at conferences. (yeah I should do lots of stuff that I don't - get off my back mom!)

Los Alamos is, in every way, an aberration but there are so many marathoners and ultramarathoners that those of us that grunt through a 5 mile hike don't even exist. Good thing that I have beer to help ease the shame...

What I find strange is, a lot of the younger guys I know, like girls with big huge fat asses. Ala' Kardashian.. I don't get it.

Sorry , I like my women fit and trim.

.

intakexhaust 05-17-2014 12:28 PM

^^^ Yep.

My guess is the Kardassian fashion came to be when she couldn't lose it. So, with her other assets and popularity, she probably figured to just glorify the pooper. Sure enough, the Brazillion ass and implants is the rage.

As for fat America, it includes Canada and Mexico. Each generation will add to the problem. The subliminal sugar pushers by food makers is a deadly and sad ordeal for the younger generation. Add the lack of physical activity and their fitness clearly shows. Kids can't handle a single push-up or lift their own weight in a single pull-up! HS PE? LOL..... Crying that they can't handle a jog around a football field and most end-up walking.

I clicked on this thread expecting to see "fat boobies in Rio."

You can imagine my disappointment!

Grrr!

I'm 6'3'' tall. My wife has hands and feet as big as mine, and thicker bones around the ankles. I know guys with much bigger hands than I have, and much thicker bones, with skulls that look like they would break a baseball bat.

I'm the guy they always got to adjust the carbs.

It amuses me how the all knowing government will fill the airwaves with PSAs about childhood obesity while simultaneously cutting funding for extracurricular sports and PE. If kids spend their entire day sitting on their asses, all of Michelle Obama's healthy school meals are a waste of time. Physical activity is the key to physical fitness, this isn't complicated.

scottmandue 05-17-2014 01:27 PM

Maybe they are purposely getting fat to draw attention away from there tattoos?

Dumb question, (cause I really don't know):

Do public schools in America still have the President's Physical Fitness standards and tests from JFK's time? When I was a grade school kid in the '60s, there was a certain amount of shame if one could not do the minimum number of sit-ups, etc.

+1!!! Staying thin is a simple formula. Sit on your arse all day - don't eat. Workout and get aerobic exercise - eat.
