Good for you but both of them are beautiful.

Personally I'd prefer the older one but not because of the way she looks alone.
That lady would more than likely have good self esteem and has her life "sorted". "Sorted" is much more attractive to me. If they have that I can easily overlook any imperfections.

I'm sick of women expecting me to clean up their mess.

The younger one is an unknown... Who knows what choices she'll make in the future. I wish her well but young girls like that are generally high maintenance.

At 5'10/175 I am about 10lbs over my college athlete fighting weight but still look reasonably human I think. I have decided to take matters into my own hands for the rest of my life to stay in the same clothing size I was married in. Some things are simply off the table and major lifestyle adjustments are warranted.

My thoughts on intake:

* Carbonated soft drinks are simply poisonous to humans. All of em IMO. I have already consumed more than a lifetime supply of the stuff. Diet drinks may be worse than HFCS laden ones in the way it tricks our system into craving sweets. Same goes for most packaged snack foods.

* Strive for 95% whole meats. Processed meats, burgers, hot dogs, sausage in very limited quantities.

* Avoid packaged/processed foods and stick to the outer perimeter of the grocery store.

* Whole fruits and vegetables are open and relatively unlimited if it comes in mother natures package. The more locally grown, the better.

* Whole bread and pasta with very simple ingredients that I can pronounce from specialty stores and bakeries.

* If the "mouse type" ingredients on a package contain a bunch of chemical compounds or other big words, it's not food so don't eat it.

* If I can buy it through a drive-thru window, it's not food.

* Restaurant meals- Eat half and bring home the other half.

My thoughts on daily exercise:

* Walk 2 miles in the neighborhood every day. It costs nothing and the dog likes it too.

* "Couches kill" so limit time on it.

* Regular active weekend adventures- hiking, surfing, motorsports, skiing, biking... whatever gets me moving.

This is the plan and has been in place for about two years now. I'll check back in 10 years and let you know how it is going.
Excellent advice especially the stuff in bold!

I doubt that. How can it "feel good" to be fat????

Cajun, good post. I agree with you, especially, about soft drinks, I cant think of a single reason for grown ups - or kids- to have them. Ive been told (can anyone verify?) that coke now contains 4x salt and 4x sugar (now fructose) that it did in 70s...coupled with the much large serving sizes....we see the results everywhere.

But- soda water- good old water + carbonation. Im not aware of any issue with this? It contains nothing but the water and bubbles.

Would also add...bread and pasta....not matter how natural and healthy and fresh... is not every body's friend.

We have a rule....if your grandmother wouldn't recognise it, don't eat it.

One difference is Coke from the 70s used sugar instead of HFCS which wasn't as bad. Soft drinks are one of the worst things for you, but I'll admit Coca Cola is one of my vices I find hard to give up. I like it too much.

Agreed Stuart,

Unsweetened carbonated drinks like soda water or tonic water are not the problem. It's the sweetened ones that quietly condition us to crave more of the sweet. I should have clarified better so I edited my earlier post.

My plan is just that. My own personal effort to not grow to be as-big-as-a-house. It won't work for everybody as many are gluten intolerant or have other dietary needs. I just figure this is a lot simpler and more interesting way of life than facing type II diabetes, heart attack, stroke, etc. The funny thing is I don't really feel like I am missing anything. If I want a cheeseburger once in a while, I hit In & Out or grill one myself. As long as it's once a month instead of twice a day I am still playing within the lines.

YMMV

Once a month is great

About once a month I go to KFC and eat like a pig. I now understand how heroin users feel when they get their hit. I'm in bliss, the world is a beautiful place... But I stay away for the rest of the month.

If something is going to kill me prematurely I want it to be more interesting than having been eating too much junk food.

Fat is fat but women should have curves. The emaciated look that was popular in the 70s and 80s can kiss my ass. The chicks in 80s hair band videos are the perfect example, asses that are no more than an extension of their thighs and a pair of bolt ons being the only thing differentiating their bodies from those of 12 year old boys
....gross.

LOL, I should have qualified my statement with "hypothetically speaking". Don't think my wife would approve of quality time with her.

Same here. Since finding out that I have borderline high cholesterol last year I've kicked the processed foods almost entirely, which is a big deal because I suck at cooking. More natural stuff like homemade sandwiches, wraps, guacamole, etc. I'm trying to drink more light beer (moderately successful) and mix a drink for a nightcap. Haven't drank normal pop in years. I'll still go have a good meal out but it's maybe once a week. I'm very active and could probably stand to lose 10-20 lbs but I'm ok with it.

LOL, London has world class cuisine, it's been years since great restaurants started appearing.

+1
You have to run at 6mph for 1 1/2 hours to burn off the calories in one Mcd's quarter pounder meal. Exercise is not THE key, it's part of the package that includes exercise food choices, and portion control.

I agree with just about everything typed here. Eat properly and exercise. That's all there is to it. It's not rocket science. Unfortunately, the culture we live in today (which is beginning to spread to the UK and Europe) emphasizes laziness, quick, easy, food in massive quantities, HUGE amounts of sugar in just about everything (look at one 12 oz. can of coke. It has about 40 grams of sugar in it. To put that in perspective, one TEASPOON of sugar is 4 grams. Think about adding 10 teaspoons of sugar to your morning coffee, because that's the same amount of sugar in one little can of coke. Now, consider that people typically buy a 32 or even 64 oz. size soft drink, and I honestly amazed that kids don't get diabetes after ONE drink. Think about having 50+ teaspoons of sugar in ONE drink.).

We are our own worst enemies.

Man, why do you guys all make fun of Coke? It's one of my vices: an ice cold Coca-Cola. Mmmmm. (Cue image of Homer Simpson thinking about doughnuts.)
