Please give me advice on this 997 cabriolet

What do you think of the price/condition and amenities? Thanks.

Looks ok if you like the color combo.

With $5K more and some patience you could find a C2S. IMO

You'd have to like beige interiors... Pet peeve of mine but I really hate them. I've bought them twice thinking I'd get used to it. Never did ! Edit: it's really the beige dash and wheel that get me. Seats are fine...

Then you'd have to be OK with a 2006, which is still smack in the range of bad RMS (no biggie) and IMS on the engine (Biggie). Personally, if I was in the market for a 997 I'd spend 10-15K more for an 09+ (and avoid all those *potential* engine issues). Never had one of those blow up, but I've owned 4 cars in that year range and it always was on my mind... It's tiresome, and the class action suit won't get you much, as it's a very used car by now... If you do buy it, hopefully the clutch is bad so you can ask Sonnen to pull the tranny for free and remove the seal from the IMS as a preventative measure!

The carmon red is a great color, the tan interior is OK. Seems like a decent price from what I see scanning CL. I'd try to make any "necessary, perceived" fixes part of the deal given they are a dealer.

Great advice about making the necessary repairs part of the deal. I had no idea the '06 model year has such a reputation. Thanks everyone!

IMS issues with the 997 are even more rare than the 996. I believe the 2005 shared much of the IMS design with the 996 but it was updated for 2006. Not worth the worry in my opinion. Of greater concern would be that the car is priced like an S but has the undesirable tan interior with multiple small nicks and scratches, as well as heavy wear on the leather wheel. If you can see wear in the photos, it will be 10x greater in person because photos hide a LOT. It's what you expect at a dealer, an otherwise unremarkable car priced at top of market levels because the Porsche dealer is selling it. A little shopping should find much better deals.

A bit surprised by the 997 IMS warnings. Not seeing a lot of data to back that up.

I like the 997 a lot but little by little more reports of scored cylinders on '06 - '08 models are popping up. What's the fix for that? Does re-sleeving fix the problem?

I'm no expert (but Matt is ) however I am guilty of daydreaming and surfing eBay/CL/autotrader for Boxsters/996's

My knee jerk reaction is price too high but then I saw it was at a dealer... if you are shopping Cali. with our plethora of plentiful Porsches I would think you could find a better deal.

FWIW I DO like the tan interior and the red metallic paint, and love those wheels.
