Ferrari or Porsche

As I factory team driver for Scuderia Ferrari, I've often been asked which do I prefer driving Ferrari or Porsche. Well, Ferrari paid the bills and were incredible cars to drive and race. However, my true love has always been Porsche and that is because my father drove a 1951 Porsche 356. I learned to drive in it. That's why I drive a 991 today. The only regret that I have is I wasn't able to race for Porsche, but I sure knew what it was like running behind a 917 on the Mulsanne Straight. The Porsche 917 would go like crazy, they were stupendous.

Erich Stahler was the name of Steve McQueen's rival in Le Mans. It would be interesting to know more about the OP than his screen name and allusions to a car that last raced at Le Mans 43 years ago (other than a brief appearance in 1981 when it didn't show its tail lights to many). I suppose it is possible that a 70 year old former Ferrari factory race team driver adopted the name of a Porsche icon and came here to praise Porsche. After all, Vic Elford is known to post on racing bbs and I've read some of his posts. But he posts under his own name.

Erich is the motor-meister chump. The guy that has a new name every other week then gets banned.

Who is Vic Elford?

Back in the late 70's & early 80's i used to wax / detail lots of cars. I had a group of customers and usually every weekend I'd travel around in my VW Pickup ( GTI Wheels, Tires & seats ) and detail cars. My record was 17 cars in a three day holiday weekend. Anyway, my #1 car to do was this guys dark blue Ferrari 308i. He even let me drive it from time to time. I was in heaven, so much fun to drive.

Most of my clients were ladies with their Lincoln's, Cadillac's, Mercedes & BMW's........never a Porsche.

Finally, I did this guys white 87 Carrera Coupe ( no tail ), after a few times he asked me if I wanted to drive it. Wow, that was an eye opener. Ever since then a Porsche Coupe was #1 on my list.

Don't be ridiculous mate! Sometimes I sit and wonder how a 907, that's right Nine-Zero-Seven, would compare to a 917 at Daytona or LeMans for 24 grueling hours? I have an idea.

No. He watched the movie LeMans while $4 per hour border jumpers "rebuilt" 911 engines for $2,995.

If you really want an answer to the question, ask Tony Adamowicz. To my knowledge he's the only driver to have raced both the Ferrari 512 and the Porsche 917 in period.

The build quality of Porsche is superior, but the sound a Ferrari engine makes puts it as something special. ^^
