Trying to not make it PARF, so no further explanation.
Do you cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard?

No tats for me. I mean, heck fire, I already have a buttload of freckles. Why would I want more marks on my body?

I knew there was a reason, what was it.....oh, yeah. Every chick I ever dated with a tattoo ended up having some sort of chemical imbalance. That, and I don't really think it's a great idea to start with.

I never had any desire whatsoever to get ink or piercing.

This guy did......

The only tat I ever considered getting would be of the numbers that were tattooed on my fathers arm by the Nazis when he was taken to a concentration camp. Maybe some day I will do it.

I worked with numerous WW2 navy vets over the years. Their once great tats were almost indistinguishable after 40 years. I would speculate most people when they get that pretty multi color probably aren't worrying about what it will look on down the road.

My son the musician who was in too many bands to name was scared of needles thank god he says from the corporate world now

I met an older gent. once who had a whale tattooed on his arm. I had to ask what's the deal with the whale? He said," When I got it 40 years ago, it was a guppy." Ok, no enlarged guppy for me, thanks.

As others have said, I never found anything I wanted to have permanantly. I came close back in the band days but chickened out.

My wife got a tattoo on her ankle back in her 20s. For Mother's Day, she had it redone in memory of her Grandmother. She was very close to G-Ma who passed away a few years ago.

I never have cared for her having one but it didn't make me love her any less.

I didn't because adults don't indulge in such nonsense. Unless they're in the U.S. Navy and need an image of an anchor on they bicep.

Just never came across "the thing" that I wanted to memorialize with permanent marks on my body.

My wife tells our 14 year old daughter that any tattoo on her body is her way of communicating to us that she's ready to move out and get her own place. We also remind her that long ago, she really like the Littlest Petshop toys. Next it was Webkinz. Then life was all about Star Wars, followed by Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and now, the show Supernatural. All of those things meant the world to her at one time. One by one, they've faded away... something ink doesn't do.

I've never "earnt" a tattoo.
I look at tattoos like medals, if you haven't earnt them, they're meaningless.
Small tattoo noting service with a particular regiment, far enough.
Tattoo of bugs bunny on your calf--WTF?

Like many have said, nothing I'd want to memorialize on my skin, though I could see me doing something like Tobra wrote about. On the practical side, I'm black and often tats are just a murky mess; I've got family with lots of them and I'm damned if I know what most of them say. I really don't get the ones with kids names and birthdays, like they'd forget otherwise?

My family has long pushed for me to get an earring, but they thought I'd look cool with a jheri curl - if I didn't listen back in the 80s (praise be to Allah/Crom/Chthulu for no old pictures of me with a baggie on my head), why start now?

Ha! i wondered if someone would bite.

I simply have no tattoos, because I think they are tacky.

I've got a few tattoos from almost ten years in Uncle Sam's Gray Canoe Club. They are all easily covered because I didn't want to ever miss out on an opportunity because of them. I'm a big boy, and I made my choices. Anyone who ignores that they may be judged based on their personal "decorations" is a fool. Tattoos aren't anything big to me, but I work in a blue collar world. Some businesses owners and managers view
them as a liability. In the end, whomever does the hiring gets to decide if you are the face of their business/position. Why would you not want to project the image of the job you want to hold? This is why ask mine are easily covered by a pair of pants and a short sleeved shirt.

My father never had one and he was in the Navy for 20 years ('39-'59) but I think my grandfather, also a Navy veteran had one or two.

I think a lot of our decisions come from what we get from our parents.

There's that plus as others have said - I've never felt strong enough about something that I wanted to ink it on my body....after all....it is fairly permanent.

I've also never felt the need to add anything else to my exterior cosmetics - other than my natural good looks.

I really think that today tattoos are so commonplace - they have lost some of their panache.

But I've always thought the bear claw and a totem pole were cool designs....if one were to have them...
