Got stung by a scorpion last night....

Hurt like a *****!

My younger daughter (11) is a sleep walker. Like clockwork, at 10 pm she comes into the living room mumbling gibberish. I walk her back to her bedroom through a dark hallway. On way back to living room I must have stepped on it. Felt like stepping on a tack. 30 min later, felt like my whole leg was on fire! I could literally feel the progression move up my leg from my foot.

I iced my foot off and on for 5 1/2 hrs. by 3:30 am I was tired enough I could fall asleep. This morning, it still hurt up to mid shin if touched anywhere on my lower leg. Now it just feels like my foot is asleep. I get the pins and needles sensation when I walk.

Always wanted to know what a scorpion sting feels like. Now I know. It hurts, but still not close to passing a kidney stone! Just glad it got me and not my daughter!

Mighta cured her sleep walking though.

Joking, glad it was not worse for you.

I hate those little ****ers.

yup - they are not fun. I hate those things -

one got me between my shoulder blades IN THE HOT TUB of our home in Sedona!

They are water seekers, and he was down near the outlet I was leaning against....bam!

Called the ER, they said I could come on down if I wanted to but that they would only observe me, since there is really no treatment!

Its a neuro-toxin, and I could feel it moving around. We went out to dinner, margaritas seemed to help - but I got a numb-ish tongue...not sure if it was the Scorp or the Marg!

next day I could not put any weight on my heels - felt like a sharp tack was partially embedded there - lasted for a few more hours.

not one of my favorite creatures!

glad you are OK!

Sounds like fun. Of course, if it had stung her, it may have cured the sleep walking.

I was just thinking that it's time to break out the black light and start the evening hunts.

Us too Lee. We were swimming this weekend and found a TINY baby one laying on the pool deck. Time to start ridding the backyard of them. We had scorpions in OK too, so I'm not too bothered by them, but I don't have any interest in getting stung!

Yeah, but you probably didn't have BARK scorpions. Tiny ones are my least favorite. That means a mama scorpion popped out a litter somewhere near by. Any time I've found a baby in the house that means more will be found. I feel a sense of relief when I find a mama with 12 babies on her back. That means there are 12 fewer to track down in the future.

My catch from just one night in 2008:

Why did California get all the fruits and nuts and Arizona get all the scorpions?

California got first choice.

I was gonna to write something about that but Sammy beat me to it. I rather put up with all that crap here in CA then put up with those little guys in the middle of the night. Do they come into the house often? We've stayed in AZ a few times but in hotels and thankfully have never seen them inside. It would freak me and my wife out that's for damn sure

I got stung last year.

Stepped out of the shower into a dark bedroom, grabbed a pair of shorts from the drawer, flipped them open, and pulled them on. I dimly registered something landing on the carpet near my feet during this process.

The moment I put my foot down I felt it -- ZZAP! Right on my big toe. Thought I had stepped on a needle!

The pain traveled all the way up to my ankle, but never past it. Foot was numb for several days after the insane pins'n'needles sensation went away. Coincidentally this was the same foot that I had broken the previous year--the later numbness was a welcome change from the usual soreness of the break.

Never did catch the li'l bastard. Sure am glad he fell out of my shorts before stinging me!!!

Found this in my search to check that I hadn't already regaled you all with my tale of woe...

I hate scorpions!

A good reason to wear slippers in the house, no?
