The two happiest days for a Lotus owner are the day he buys it and the happiest is the day he sells it. But then a Lotus owner is likely to have sold the car to go buy a boat..

Some people get it and some don't. I drove my '67 Camaro (RS/SS396, stock) right past a guy--going the other way--in a nice '69 Z/28, also stock and well-kept. I shot a wave out the window and he just stared at me as we passed. Whatevs.

Same thing in the Cabriolet. Newer 911s may or may not wave. Boxters may or may not wave. But I do get enthusiastic waves from some of them, usually if I shoot a wave up over the windshield frame when the top is down. Some of them look surprised and then wave, which is great because most of us drive in a kind of zone, so getting jolted out of it by an enthusiastic wave seems refreshing. I've gotten waves and thumbs-ups from kids in Hondas too. If I see another P-car of any vintage I wave. If they don't that's fine.

Try that in a 914 and get back to me.

914s are fun to flash. the headlight motors are independent from each other, and one is always slower than the other, so if you pull the switch on and off multiple times, they get out of sync and look pretty funny.

Not always though. The fog light surrounds will fit airplane landing lights. I can flash someone a mile away. Just leave the fog switch on. When the headlights are off, the fog lights can be flashed with the headlight high beam switch, same as a 911.

By the way, I learned to wave at cars from my dad. We were driving up to Tahoe in dad's new '67 Healey for vacation and I was five. We were going up the 2-lane part of Highway 50 above Placerville with me in the pass seat, on my knees so I could see out front. Another Healey came past, the other way, with two young guys in it and the driver shot us a big wave straight up over the windshield frame. I though that was so cool. I asked my dad why he waved (remember, I was five) and he said it was because we were both in Austin Healeys.
