Those look like 911R (Fiat?) lights with trim rings.

Interesting find.

I have stood next to a very nice example almost in a barn. It was local. Not an unknown collector in the P world. Very cool car.

I couldn't afford to restore the door handles on a 904.

Deep six-figures to low 7 figures to restore such a rare piece of Porsche history.

I got to ride in one once.

A friend of mine that lives in Georgia owned one. He called it his 401K. He bought it in the late 70s for fairly low bucks. He said he was almost afraid to start it. If that engine dies it is rather expensive. He sold it a couple of years ago. I would love to know what he got for it but he did not share the price.

Well, he probably retired on the money. Good for him. :)

Several years ago a 904 showed up to a local PCA cruise.

It was a beautiful day, could not ask for better weather, a slight chill to the air but a crystal clear sky and the sun-a-blazing.

Midway through the cruise the 904 guy turned back to go home, said he was baking in there.

I guess the downside of keeping things really light and with no heavy mat insulation is that your backside bakes.

Yea, they are cars to admire and look at but not real useful.

I saw a replica of one with a 3.2 911 engine and AC. It was finished inside and looked really nice. It was priced in the GT3 or 911 Turbo price range.

I forgot to add, the first part of his journey, getting to the event he spent freezing, headers - no heat.

I felt sympathy, as I've never had heat in my car either.

Fortunately for me, when it gets warm I can take the Targa top off.

A Targa 904 would be cool, real cool.

GH85Carrera 06-05-2014 07:55 AM

Wait, you live in Michigan and you have no heater in the car? The heater in my 911 works amazingly well. I drove it on the highway last winter on a night when it was ZERO. The is the only time I have had to keep the heater levers all the way up. The footwell blowers did not need to run but it was toasty in the car.

I will be driving west towards the sun while going through Death Valley in the afternoon next week. I will get to really test the AC.

I sat in Butzi's old 904 once.
Well I sort of sat in it, my butt was in the seat but there wasn't enough room to swing my legs over and get all the way in.
