Thank you America
I think it is the day to thank all your fathers and grandfathers who went on our beaches 70 years ago.
We will never forget their sacrifice and devotion. God bless America. Philippe

It is nice to hear gratitude for sacrifices made by our soldiers, but do not forget the thanks due the British and Canadians. I'm reading The Guns at Last Light right now, and the sacrifices those men made are awe-inspiring and terrible the same time.

Thank you for reminding us Philippe.
I think the only time I felt faint as an adult was when I first set eyes on the American Cemetery at Normandy. My God....

And thanks to France: The condition of the memorials and cemeteries, the obvious love and care they are afforded, is very touching. Best.

Why is this thread in PARF?
I should be in the OT forum. I totally agree with Seahawk, you said it well Philippe.

Philippe, that was truly a class act.
On behalf of my departed grandfather, I say you are welcome. I hope you and your countrymen enjoy the freedom that cost so much for a long, long time. |

Phillippe - thank you for hosting so many of veterans that came for this day today, the few that are still with us will likely not be much longer. Many in my family served in WWII sadly all are gone now. We must all keep the history and memory of these events alive lest history repeat itself and the flame of freedom be extinguished.

Philippe
Thank you for your thoughts on this special day. A couple of years ago we visited 5 American cemeteries in France, Luxembourg, and Belgium, along with a number of French, British, and one WWI German. We experienced nothing but a warm welcome in all the surrounding towns, gracious people, and a feeling of solidarity when we stopped at the monuments and memorials. As a matter of clarification, the American Battle Monuments Commission administers, operates, and maintains all the American cemeteries in Europe along with a number of monuments. They do an extraordinary job, down to hand clipping the grass at the base of the carrera marble crosses/stars of David. Each site is amazing in its somber beauty and quiet elegance.
