Interesting car related things I have seen, add yours

I was talking with my daughter the other night and telling her about some of the interesting (to me) car stuff I have seen over all these years I have been around. She suggested I write some down so here goes. I remember:

- racing on 1/4 mile dirt tracks in Delaware and Maryland in the 1961 to 1965 time frame. The fastest cars had GMC 270 cubic inch truck engines with 6 single barrel carbs and home made headers. We drank lots of beer on those Friday and Saturday nights.

- Seeing my first Chevy 409 cu. in. Bel Air and it raced the 1962 corvette which was the fastest car in our home town! Beat the 'Vette by about 2 car lengths and nearly 500 guys came out to watch.

- Seeing Don Garlits race the Arfons brothers and their Green Monster at Atco N.J. and the Green Monster set the large sign at the beginning of the burnout area on fire (they had just added an after burner) which caused a slight delay.

- The first all Super Stock drag meet at the Cecil County Drag-o-way (as it was named then) and at midnight the Ramchargers beat Don Nicholson's Comet for the $1000 first place. Next was Old Reliable getting beat by Phil Bonner and the Georgia Frog Ford Falcon.

- The first time I fired up my HD XR-750 bike and it scared the hell out of me! Won a few races with that monster.

- Burn outs by the altereds and dragsters in the early 60's using bleach which resulted in some huge fire balls.

- When my HD custom won the Best American Bike class at the Seattle Truck and Bike Show in 1978. It had 40 coats of lacquer and little details like dyed fuel lines and such. Still have the plaque and trophy after all these years!

Ah yes, great car and motorcycle memories for sure.

Garage
My first time in a viper was when I was teaching a 16yr old to both drive a stick and autocross. I drew the short straw among instructors that day it seems.

May not be interesting, but it was sphincter tightening!
