Brain trust - access gate question.

With this gate

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1402875683.jpg

I used to be able to open it to get my car through by going to the "inside" and holding up a meter square bit of sheet steel. The gate thought it was a car locked in the forest side and would open. I like to get in to chainsaw up firewood and take the dogs for a walk. I suspect the City Council got told some guy is getting through and they have changed it so it requires something like a remote garage door opener to be pointed at it from both directions now. Does anyone know how these work and a possible workaround?

This is the control box.

Generally speaking yes... But for the love of chainsaws.

I think Bill looks at the gate as a challenge to be defeated.

Well I have this gizmo I use to break into people's garages, maybe you can borrow it and try it.

Go over it #BoandLukeDuke

Looks like the gate slides in and out of the casing on the right. I'm thinking gear drive from the bottom like rack and pinion. Electric no doubt. I'm thinking that box under the small post with the white knobs or whatever is the weak point. Security screws?, not a problem. A cordless drill with bit and easy-outs and replace the screws, stuff a small remote activated switch operated by a phone app. Or better yet, if its an intelligent code type of unit, find brand name, get an appropriate remote, put in "learn" mode and program your own remote.

Yes, this is the sort of thing. As Hugh said I need to wait around until someone who is allowed through arrives and I do a learn of their remote. My game plan with the sheetmetal emulating a car stuck on the forest side had worked well for quite a number of visits. But the spoil sports have changed the game on me. Thanks, a saber saw is a good idea, but I think I'll focus on the remote idea for a while first :)

Gogar 06-15-2014 08:22 PM

Maybe when someone comes through with a remote, you should just kick their ass and take the remote.

I mean..... that wood that's not yours ain't gonna cut itself!!

wdfifteen 06-16-2014 12:18 AM

Would these guys let a little gate stop them?
No. And they didn't even have a chain saw.
Time to validate that man card.

Yeah, just a lil ol gate shouldn't be stopping a load of chainsaw sorta fun.

Good advice Gogar. Other than kick their asses, maybe I should just show them the chainsaw and say "Have you not seen the movie?"

john70t 06-16-2014 02:42 AM

Follow them home, smash a window, and take their gate remote.
Or, heck, borrow the whole car. You can give it back later.

So in your neck of the woods, is there jail time for destruction of property and trespassing? If so, how long, so if you stop posting we'll know when you'll be back.

ROTFL!

I'm confused here....you're tryjng to defeat a gate designed to keep you out. Do I have that right? The bank keeps me out of the vault...can I get some advice on that?

GWN7 06-16-2014 09:24 AM

Is that a key pad on the post? What do the signs say on the other side? As mentioned battery operated saws all and a hand full of blades, sell the bar for scrap.

Unbolt the posts from the concrete. You should be able to just push the bar out of the way.

masraum 06-16-2014 10:13 AM

just drive around it.

1990C4S 06-16-2014 01:12 PM

Use the soil in the berm to make a ramp on each side of the gate.

Bill Douglas 06-16-2014 01:48 PM

Excellent advice but I try to stay under the radar. It's reserve land owned by the city council and they had felled a number big old Cupress trees. I've been cutting up a few  trailer loads of the stuff instead of it rotting in the forest - so really I'm doing them a favor. There must be a dozen properties with access through this gravel road and they have been given special permission. With my Husqvarna 455, being so quiet, they don't even know I'm there. Plus it's not actually illegal, it's more of a getting told off type thing. There was another location where I chainsawed up some wind fallen big branches and the park ranger stopped and chatted for about an hour about chainsaws, dogs, Lord of the Rings filming locations, and no mention of "Git the hell out of here." So I'll try some sort of multi band remote or see if a learn feature on a remote can pick up someones signal.

Cajundaddy 06-16-2014 02:09 PM

It's just a roller gate, how tough could it be?

And who is liable if you get hurt doing this? I don't let people on my property for liability reasons, perhaps the city council feels the same way.

It is apparent they don't want you there, so in the absence of city council permission you should stay away.

My neighbor has some old cars locked away. I would really be helping him if I took them....

Bill Douglas 06-16-2014 03:57 PM

Wow, Mariska is clever!!!

We have publicly funded health care - a bit like Britian, but without the troubles ;) Plus I've done a two day chainsaw use and safety course. So liability isn't an issue. We aren't really into suing in this country unless someone has been very negligent. But yes, this is one of the reasons they don't want people such as me doing this.

It's in my nature to use rules as guidelines so something as minor as this is fair game in my book :)
