Brain trust - access gate question.
With this gate
![]() I used to be able to open it to get my car through by going to the "inside" and holding up a meter square bit of sheet steel. The gate thought it was a car locked in the forest side and would open. I like to get in to chainsaw up firewood and take the dogs for a walk. I suspect the City Council got told some guy is getting through and they have changed it so it requires something like a remote garage door opener to be pointed at it from both directions now. Does anyone know how these work and a possible workaround? This is the control box. ![]() |

I think Bill looks at the gate as a challenge to be defeated.

Looks like the gate slides in and out of the casing on the right. I'm thinking gear drive from the bottom like rack and pinion. Electric no doubt. I'm thinking that box under the small post with the white knobs or whatever is the weak point. Security screws?, not a problem. A cordless drill with bit and easy-outs and replace the screws, stuff a small remote activated switch operated by a phone app. Or better yet, if its an intelligent code type of unit, find brand name, get an appropriate remote, put in "learn" mode and program your own remote.

Maybe when someone comes through with a remote, you should just kick their ass and take the remote.
I mean..... that wood that's not yours ain't gonna cut itself!!

Would these guys let a little gate stop them?
No. And they didn't even have a chain saw. Time to validate that man card. ![]()

Yeah, just a lil ol gate shouldn't be stopping a load of chainsaw sorta fun.
Good advice Gogar. Other than kick their asses, maybe I should just show them the chainsaw and say "Have you not seen the movie?" |

Follow them home, smash a window, and take their gate remote.
Or, heck, borrow the whole car. You can give it back later. |

So in your neck of the woods, is there jail time for destruction of property and trespassing? If so, how long, so if you stop posting we'll know when you'll be back.

Is that a key pad on the post? What do the signs say on the other side? As mentioned battery operated saws all and a hand full of blades, sell the bar for scrap.
Unbolt the posts from the concrete. You should be able to just push the bar out of the way.

Use the soil in the berm to make a ramp on each side of the gate.

Excellent advice but I try to stay under the radar. It's reserve land owned by the city council and they had felled a number big old Cupress trees. I've been cutting up a few
