how to install aftermarket rocker covers ?
I purchased some aftermarket fiberglass rocker covers for my Boxster. I bought them cheap and on a whim so if they don't work out no big deal. I haven't held them up to the car yet but I'll assume they will need some fitting. But as a general rule how are these installed ? The bottom pinch weld seam on the glass covers has holes in them so I assume I drill the metal pinch weld on the car and install the covers with screws/bolts ? What actually holds the covers on the top where they meet the body ? All the pics I have seen shows a seam there so it doesn't look like they get bonded. Is it just the rigidity of the part that holds it tight to the body ? I assume a few screws on both ends into the wheel well opening also ?

Wood screws, Elmers glue, expanding foam, take your pick.

wow, there for a minute I was thinking that you two were crazy, or I was. I was thinking "rocker arm covers". Whew, glad I realized what you were really talking about.

The factory aero kits on the 986/996 have clips with a threaded hole that attaches to the pinch weld on the underside of the body, the screws that attach the bottom of the skirts screw into these clips. The upper portion of the skirt is held on with 3M (or similar) double sided trim adhesive tape, you can buy it at most auto parts stores. The upper portion also rests on an aluminum ledge that screws to the body. There is typically one screw front and back where the skirt wraps around into the wheel well.
For the 996 these clips are 999 507 640 09 and listed as a u-clamp. I couldn't find them in the 986 parts catalog but they should be the same.
