Losing My Brazilian. Photos Included!

Last year I picked up a very low km VW City Golf that was assembled in Brazil to use as a commuter car. Really liked driving it for the small size and good handling.

Last week I had a little run in with a 1 ton truck and these are the results.

Bet your glad to see photos of a wrecked VW rather than photos of me growing my hair out!

The car was declared a total loss and will be picked up by the insurance company sometime this afternoon.

First accident in 35 years, since I was 16!

I agree that it doesn't look that bad.
It drove home and wasn't feeling off at 30-50 mph.
There is a slight misalignment corner to corner and a slight shift on the front door alignment at the trailing edge along the roof line. All the other gaps seem pretty good.
45000 km on the ODO.
The payout was pretty close to what I paid for it about a year and a half ago.

Looks like your Brazillian got "waxed".

Sorry about that.
For an old design chassis, they handled well.

Best

I thought you were losing your Brazilian bikini tan line.

Glad it's only a car!

Did you get a buy-back price?

Didn't get a buy back on it.
For the amount of time I have and a surplus of projects, I took the cash and need to move on.
Looking for a new commuter but probably not before school starts again.
One more day of work and then off for the summer!
Yay!
Would kind of like the golf wagon, I think it might not be a bad ski car.
This car was amazing with Blizzaks on it during this past winter. I couldn't believe how well it drove in snow and ice. I never felt the need to fire up the 4x4 and we had bad winter driving conditions.

"Total loss" = Cost of repair > Value of car

There was a case in Australia where a SsangYong Musso was "written off" simply by the loss of all keys for the car. Cost of new keys+reprogramming exceeded the residual value of the car, therefore written off.

After hearing some nightmare stories about low ball offers I had saved about 10 screen shots of local cars and their asking prices.
I called and asked for a copy of the appraisal report and the value of the repairs. The guy handling my claim told me the damage was about $8k and that most vehicles are written off if the repairs estimate exceeds 80 percent of the wholesale value.
Maybe because I phoned and asked questions they were more forthcoming with a decent offer right away? I don't know.
