Pikes

I have a couple friends doing it for the first time this year.
One on Ducati panigale and the other on a Aprilia svx 550 supermoto.

Reports are its really fun and really cold in the very early morning practices.

Guy Martin is giving it a go on a old school GSXR set up like a street fighter and turbo. Crazy mofo.

I realize many poo-pooed when they layed the asphalt but this is perfect for the bikes. Would love to see this event.

And Martin's bike. That is crazy but the turbo clearly makes sense. Supposedly a '91 Gixer with 300+ hp!

I thought this was about my house.

Those supermoto / hypermotard bikes are probably great for the tight hairpins.. but that is all. A GP bike has double the horsepower and that is what really will matter.

Guy Martin build that turbo bike himself. If it holds together and runs properly... he will be the one to watch. Not to dump on the other riders... but I'm pretty sure Guy has them sacked in the road racing talent department. Unless John Guinness shows up.

Thank god for motorcycle racing - we still have un-homogenized characters like Guy Martin.

That swing arm and subframe is a thing of beauty...

Looks like a slightly later model, a '93-95 water-cooled bike.

Odd choice for a run up Pike's Peak.

Count me in as a poo-pooer - this road was meant to be unpaved - it was a sin in my opinion when the asphalt went down, bikes or not

Find any youtube interview with Guy, and turn on closed captioning. :D

Now who is the conservative ;)

Thanks for the vid.
That boy sure likes to hug that right edge, eh?
Sweaty palms watching him be that close.
His Hyper makes good power - uphill, 24 mph to 103 mph in less than 5 secs (I counted).

My pal from Iowa getting his Ducati Panigale up the hill.

He reports being geared way too tall, but having a great time.
Guy is having bike issues too.

D-Zug posted a video on you tube going up the mountain.

Fantastic shot of the Penigale!

Apparently there was a red flag during qualifying this morning and a buddy of mine got stuck chatting to Guy at engineers corner for a while:

Qualifying info here if you are interested:
powered by LiveTiming.net

My pal Eric is staying at the same hotel with Guy and by all reports he is pretty much the same Guy that "we" know from youtube vids.

thanks for the timing link.

Looks like Foutch (on the duc) is 11th in open class
another local pal is in 7th in lwt class on a Aprillia 550 sumo.

Out with engine problems.... last I heard.

dlockhart 06-29-2014 11:36 AM

Eric made it up the mountain on his Duc.

Another rider was less fortunate.

RIP racer
