Invented by the Romans. Today we have some fancy versions but basic concrete is pretty much the same stuff.

Not sure this qualifies as an "invention", but my brother told us how impressed he was recently when he pulled our father's 40-year-old+ 17' stern-end aluminum Grumman canoe out of his barn. He said it looks brand-new...with no maintenance whatsoever over the years.
