Arthur

Up here in the Maritimes, Arthur turned out to be a nasty little storm. Lots and lots of trees down, power lines down, light stations down, shingles flying, heavy rain, surge tides, floods. Some nasty stuff, despite that CNN seemed to find it disappointing.

Think it hit the Carolinas and the entire east coast quite hard. Hope everyone gets through it. BTW it's still raging up here. Think it hit Nova Scotia hard too. Perhaps OldE could let us know how it was in NS?

I'm about 150 miles inland from landfall, and all we had was a cloudy day with one wind gust about 3:00pm on Thursday. Friday, and today brought us mostly clear skies, and some of the most comfortable air I can remember in July.

I'd heard that the coast was hit pretty hard, and that hwy NC12 was shut down until this morning. I haven't kept up with the news reports though, so I don't know how bad the damage was, but I hope it was minimal, and everybody is safe.

Thursday - rain
Friday (yesterday) - lots of rain
Today - less rain
Tomorrow - about 65 trillion mosquitoes.

Sorry to hear Arthur was so rough on you. Here in Ohio the major effect has been lots of air traffic. We don't see many F-15s or F-16s here normally, but they are moved here when there is bad weather in the east. Probably a dozen of each flew over Thursday.

Tough way to get your firewood! This is a knarly, knotty old tree that probably scared the poop outa the homeowners when it crashed.

Arthur made landfall about 15 miles from me. I slept through the worst of it. Lots of rain and wind gusts in the 85-90 MPH range. We got no damage. Lost power at about half past midnight. Came back on about noon Fri.
The economy is highly tourist-driven (Emerald Isle is on an island). They get the power back on fast, especially on a holiday weekend.
Irene hit us on Labor Day weekend.
Arthur went by real fast, much faster than Irene. I was glad.
No, we didn't evac for either.

Carter
