Teach me about Denver - Relocation
 

Well I think the time has come to finally post this up...

I am currently in the late stages of a relocation with another big red company in the Denver area.

Facts: 26/Male/Single/No kids/Card carrying Yuppie

I am going to be working out by the airport, but have previously spent all my time in the Golden/Arvada area, so I am not too familiar with the eastern side of the city. Is it possible to live on the North side of the city and loop around towards the airport? Would love a sub 30 minute commute, but don't mind a longer drive as long as the average speed is high.

I would love to live near Golden, but I think the commute would just suck too much to justify. I love being outdoors so the draw to this area is natural. Have heard good things about LoDo but the rent mayh be prohibitive. Would love to get a 2 bedroom/2 bath place for around 1500/month.

I thought there was a thread very similiar to this but have had zero luck finding it. Can anyone point me in the correct direction?

my sister lives there. i like denver so much, i put up with visiting her..she even gets to yell at me once or twice.

I spend a lot of time at DIA. There is a toll road, E470 that runs from I25 to DIA on the north side, I take it every time I drive to the airport. It is about 20 minutes from 470 & 25 to the airport.

I'd rather live on the north side myself and avoid the traffic of Golden to the airport.

Are you looking for a trendy place to live?

Welcome, you will love Denver and Colorado.
I have lived in CO all my life, but more north: Longmont and Ft. Collins.
You will love driving in the mountains and canyons. We have a pretty well attended cars-n-coffee the first Saturday of the month, and our very own Porsche Breakfast club that meets the second Saturday of the month.

As far living north of Denver, there is a toll road from the north that goes to the airport- E-470, speed limit 75. It is probably pretty wide open in the morning just because it is a toll road. But fast, it takes me about 15-20 minutes once I get on the road to get into the airport.

RTD light rail from Union Station downtown to the DIA terminal will be done fairly soon--maybe early 2016 should that be a possibility.

I am not super trendy, but I would like a walkable neighberhood where I could ride a bike to grab a bite to eat/get groceries. I have heard great things about the highlands... but it looks pricey.

Golden = almost an hour to the airport, with average traffic. It's ok, but if you want to go into town you might get sick of it after a while.

A guy your age should look in "LoHi" or "Highlands" for the best combo of commute/fun. About 35 minutes to the airport and you can walk to about a zillion restaurants and bars and there's a staggering amount of cute girls there.

Any other advice is almost surely wrong.

Thanks a lot Craig. I always loved jetting out of work early when I was in Golden and heading into the mountains. Absolutely wonderful roads.

I prefer to escape west and north myself and avoid Denver and the I70 corridor at all costs.

One of my closest friends is a graduate of the academy. Probably one of the most positive, self assured and open minded people youd ever meet. Go finish your beer.

That said, denver is a beautiful city.

You might want to try Stapleton - easier commute to DIA than Highlands or LoDo - and the rent will probably be less. Yet, just a hop away from downtown (really easy bike ride, and lots of public transportation options).

You'll love Denver - great city, great people, and the best mountains!

I think you're going to experience a little bit of sticker shock from TX as far as rent goes. Not bad, though.

She's right! Stapleton is about 20-25 minutes from DIA. Miss Gogar's office is there. There's one called "Lowry" too, add about 5-10 minutes.

"Stapleton" and "Lowry" should get you reasonable rent. They are sort of . . . manufactured communities, though. If that term makes sense. If you like Chipotle, Panera, Starbucks, Pinkberry, Applebees, Einstein Bagels, etc. etc. you'll love Lowry and Stapleton.

Another one is Uptown. 30 minutes or so to the airport; nice restaurants, good access to everywhere. There's a few godless queers there so it would probably scare Sammy to death, though. ;)

I had a coworker that lived in Stapleton, he loved it and was yuppie-ish.

I have friends that relocated to Arvada about 7 years ago. They love it. I want to say when I visited them we went to Old Arvada? That was really nice. Quick to Denver and quick to the mountains it seemed.

Houston rents are thru the roof currently. I am sure I'll be in for somewhat of a sticker shock, since I am looking for a two bedroom place though.

Haha ya... I was paying 800 for a small apartment in a complex filled with crackhead. Houston ain't cheap either. ;)
