World Cup 2014: any thoughts?! :D
I peaked in the off-topic religion/politics sl-litepile expecting to find this thread there, however that is how lame (for the most part) they are, as it has yet to be discussed...I think.
(Note to self: the Eric Cantor thread is the only one over there that I may come back to read...that should be enlightening with this broad demographic.) Back to World Cup 2014: any thoughts?! ![]() GO USA!!! |

The BBC comes through with a very usable site:

I hope Spain can win again this time although the competition is fierce. Brazil, Germany, Argentina, ...
We are in a tough group with Netherlands, Chile and Australia. There is even a chance that we will not pass the groups stage... ![]() |

good luck Paco..
hoping the Us moves on.. gotta be careful around Mom thou.. as she would likely smack me for not supporting the Germans.. folks here don't get it or understand the fervor of these games.. when on in Europe // South America.. the only folks outside.. are the tourist looking at buildings & fountains of long ago.. On the other hand, it will be very difficult for the US to pass this stage. ![]() No matter, I really just want to see great matches, good sportsmanship, and no stage acting on the pitch (probably dreaming here). |

CR7 is no better than Figo was in 2002.
US can - and rightly should - beat Ghana, dispite history. From there it will take a miracle like 2002 to get the US out of the group.

If the US beats Ghana and Germany/Portugal have a low scoring tie, then things get interesting

Personally: i like Argentina to win it all.
Second: the refs are interjecting themselves into the games at a curious level. D: nothing random about the draw for USA.

5 to 1 against Espanje.....
Loved every minute of it, it is a long tournament, but I really could not imagine a better outcome. Decisively destroyed Spain....Wilhelmus was always a little wrong in the wording after all and proved again today. Hup, hup Nederland!! Dennis |

Brazil vs. Croatia should have been a tie if it wasn't the ref's terrible penalty kick call...
fwiw, The hosts don't look all that good. A technical team will dismantle them quite easily. Spain's goalie is horrible!!! How this guy has any titles is beyond me.... |

The USMNT will do better than they are projected - I hope the refs do not decide more games (like the Brazil Croatia game)
Still early - but neither Brazil or Spain played like they are top world teams.

Thanks for the support and condolences guys. We definitely got a beating and the worst part is that we totally deserved it. The Dutch ran faster and were much more intense.
Unfortunately our star players are getting old and slow and are out of shape and ideas, so it is time for a renewal of the team. Let us hope we can get over it and win the next two games. |
