If you can get it to me by Friday, I'm driving to Toronto this weekend. Could ship it from there to you.

Hey Shaun, thanks so much for the offer, but I'll probably stick with the plan of getting it back in NL, partly due to the thought of getting more suitable material.

Considering that we have had disputes in PARF, I think you are being a real gentleman by making the offer. I really appreciate your doing so....have a safe trip, safe travel through the joys of our shared "open" border and enjoy your visit.

I am currently a little further west (Calgary), otherwise I would try to line you up to buy you a beer or fluid of your choice....

Take care

Dennis

Dennis, what happens in PARF, stays in PARF. I'm going up to deliver oil lines and pick up fenders, bumper and 915 for me, seats and S oil lines for other Pelicans (that I have no idea who they are) that I'll ship from here for the Canadian seller since it's too costly to ship these from Canada.

It's always a good thing to help the guy next to you, it's just what you do. Plus you seem like a hell of a smart and nice guy in real life.

Would be a pleasure to join you in beer some day, hope I'm fortunate enough.

Offer stands if you change your mind.

Dennis, would a pair of ~16mm tubes (side by side) work with your design? Might be a much simpler solution . . .

I could go to round tubing, but there is a degree of wanting to make it look "right" in this. I have fitted the six speed, removed the sunroof and drip rails, backdated with metal and doing all sorts of stuff...this is one more piece of evidence in my anal retentiveness.

Once I get this puppy built I will be able to describe better why I am taking this complex of a solution, hard to describe but easy to understand once I have it built. Let's just say it involved golf and other luggage.

Thanks though....

Dennis

What's your concern here? Too much load? C'mon. The likelihood is that the closet tubing will be over-building for a strut. (iow, heavier than needed).

If he wants to get in to an engineered/optimized solution, he won't get that from some custom builder shop foreman - unless the builder is and engineer, willing to do actual engineering optimization calc's for him (not likely).

Dennis, one cool thing you could do is design in a tensioning cable down the middle of the tube. This would allow you to pre-stress the tube, making it massively ridged across the span. ...or just get some CF.

I just have to add/say that the design intent here is stiffness - NOT design to UTS.

That is, CrMo benefits will not be seen in application here. The modulus of elasticity is the key player. No big gains will be realized by using CrMo over even a 10xx series steel when rigidity is the game. (and well w/in max strain levels )
