clearly they are new and improved, you know, they are better at making money for the manufacturer.

Yup, my old company used the same internals for a bunch of products. The mechanism is actually pretty simple. As for cleaning, poke the orifice with a pin...

Rustoleum sprays all seem to come this way. I've never heard about wiping the nozzle and the pin thing never worked for me. After using about 1/3 of a few cans before the nozzles clogged I started taking the nozzle off as soon as I finished and blowing it out with compressed air. I kept the cans with clogged nozzles and use these cleaned nozzles on them. I've still got a couple cans of etching primer on the shelf waiting for a good nozzle.

I always (or try to) save the nozzles when I throw away an emtpy can. I'll clean them with cam carb cleaner. Then if one gets clogged I'll go to my spares.

This is what I do in my shop, except I clean them with lacquer thinner.

I just buy a package of half a dozen or so new nozzles at pretty much any big box/hardware store. They're cheap. Seems like as long as I have a package of them, I don't clog up any nozzles on the cans I have.

Sometimes on a clogged nozzle, a can of carb cleaner with the small red straw will help force out the gunk.
