Crap, not another Malaysian airline...

On my recent trip to KL from Hong Kong, the in flight map screwed up a couple times and then they just shut it off. I asked the local sitting beside me what was going on and he said, it's not good.

I took my IPhone up to the bathroom area and recall rated the compass to ensure we were still flying south... I felt a bit better after that.

I have no desire to travel to south east Asia after that trip...

Oh man... I flew a lot of flights on Air Asia when I was living in Kuala Lumpur, it is a "budget" airline and flies out of the "low cost terminal" instead of the regular terminals at KLIA. Cheap, but nothing scary. I have a coworker from that time who I wished a merry Christmas this morning, and she was in Indonesia celebrating the holiday with her family (she is Indonesian). She lives in Singapore. I hope she and her son were not on that flight.

For a brief time American Airlines had a TV screen display showing a camera view pointed directly ahead of the aircraft - all the passengers got a pilot's eye view of take-offs, landings, etc. In 1979 Flight 191's DC-10 lost its engine on take-off (it fell off the wing) and the passengers got a real time view of their demise as the plane hurtled toward the ground.

They removed the TV screens after that.

My wife is in Malaysia right now, coming back in a few weeks via HK. I hate these events - god speed to the passengers and crew.

I am here in the USA, but heading to Vietnam in a couple weeks! I've done some domestic flying on stuff in SE Asia and everything seems pretty legit to me. The Russia domestics always have me worried, though!

I predict they will find something tonight (daytime in that region).

Wreckage in the Java Sea perhaps.

I truly hope a miracle happens and there are survivors....

My boss was on that flight (same airline and flight path at least) the day before. Scary.

After what happened earlier this year I'm surprised something like this could happen again.
I guess no amount of technology can stop this happening but surely we can track planes more effectively.

I understand there is a lot of air traffic every day but looking forward someone needs to invent a "live black box".
What I mean by that is a device that's always transmitting the status, altitude and position of an air craft to a secure place.

I just hope there's some good news when or if they find the wreck.

Prayers for the families.

It appears they have found it Missing Air Asia plane is likely 'at the bottom of the sea' | Daily Mail Online and suspect it stalled from climbing to steeply (slowly) I thought the whole idea of these airbuses was that they were almost impossible to crash by this sort of thing

"Found it"? They think it's at the bottom of the ocean. Quite a stretch to "found it".

A lot of knowledgeable people tell me the airbus is unfit for air travel.
Their fly by wire thing sucks .
I know nothing, just saying what they told me.
