If I were to go back and tell my 18 YO self financial advice it would be identical to what my dad told me back then. I didn't listen to him back then and as such, probably wouldn't to my own advice.

It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.

Don't hang out with the cool dumbschits in High School.

Sell my dot com stocks and put them in real estate before the big crash. Buy real estate sooner and buy serious wood working mfg equip sooner, beg, borrow, and steal the money if I had to to buy them. Dicked around for too long doing high end custom work (instead of semi custom production work). Oh well, only if I had more money at the time.

This. Especially the part about Student loans, it's amazing how much they look like "free money" until you have to start paying on them.

And this. Too many friends wasted 4 years going to college "because that's what people do after high school", with no idea what they wanted to do. Then went back and paid to do it all over again once they figured life out.
