If a topic is that important that someone can run me head-on into oncoming traffic, perhaps ,maybe it is important enough to find a place to park and clearly communicate with the other party.

Thank you.

Just last week, an oncoming Audi driver on a rural, two lane gravel road came around a blind corner in my lane. She was absolutely flying, rallye style, doing damn near double the 25mph limit. There were houses all around us, with the usual kids, dogs, etc. scurrying about. And yes, she was on the phone, even at that speed.

I had to bail into the right hand ditch (thank God I was on the XR that time, too). She missed me by inches. Needless to say, I was livid.

Maybe if some of you cell phone yammering idiots had similar close calls, your attitudes would change concerning the importance of making that call while you are driving. To me, there is simply no excuse. Nothing you could possibly be talking about is more important than my life, or the lives of my loved ones.

Agree, for some reason it does seem less offensive when a distracted driver is on the blue tooth phone, so you don't see it pressed to their ear. Then they just look like another bad driver, but at least they are not on the phone (as far as I know).
Drivers occupy their time with so many distractions in the car now.
Cars are just an office on wheels for many.
I would think it is less safe for a cycle rider today than 40 years ago.
Back when it was just a push-button AM radio in the car dash.

Make that loud Harley sound like an early 911 and I'll hang up the phone, open my windows and listen to your ride. ;)

Yes, I am that intolerant of this behavior. Yes, I have really done all of that. And yes, I have been run over by an inattentive driver in a pickup truck.

I hope you're better at it than this guy!

You keep doing that to cars on your bike, and one day you will meet your match, guy in car will run you over with his car and it will not be funny to you anymore.

speeder 07-15-2014 08:15 AM

Hahahahaha

And I ride a bike. You go around punching windows and kicking doors of moving cars and pretty soon you'll meet someone angrier than you who just jerks the steering wheel towards you. "Oops...he scared me and I panicked"...

You invite people to pull over and "discuss it" and you will wind up on the evening news. Maybe for being arrested and maybe for getting your neck broken or your little gun shoved up your ass when you pick the wrong victim. I've been that guy who gets frustrated and expresses anger at bad drivers but it's not smart. Now I just call the CHP on my cell phone when someone is driving in a life-threatening manner.

really? ...you made noise with your motorcycle . . so I will KILL you!

is that how it works?

Harley riders litter the shoulders...

speeder 07-15-2014 08:29 AM

"Make noise"...? He's bragging about kicking doors, busting off mirrors and inviting people to pull over and discuss on side of the road. That can definitely get you a ticket to Club Dead.

Don Ro 07-15-2014 08:31 AM

So what's it going to take?...a few lawmakers losing their children to in-car cell phone users for them to realize that their campaign contributions are just not worth it?

Ah, thanks.

Of course, thinking you can kill someone for busting your mirror can also "get you a ticket to Club Dead."

SOme people react even faster and with finality when someone else tries to actually, thoughtfully, kill them.

I have a riding buddy who is a far better rider than I am. Former AMA motocrosser, has raced in the Baja a couple of times, dabbled in trials, etc. His bike control is phenomenal. He rides one of the Hussaberg 570's with the "upside down" motor.

So, one day in heavy, bumper to bumper city traffic, one of you self important ass holes yammering on his cell merged left, right into him, forcing him into oncoming traffic. Fortunately, there was room to split lanes. He hit the brakes and fell in behind this guy.

At the next intersection, like so many distracted drivers, the driver stops about two to three car lengths behind the guy in front of him (another pet peeve with you idiots, by the way). My buddy couldn't resist - he wheelies, slams the skid plate on the corner of the trunk, and proceeds to ride right on over the car. Beautiful. I only wish I was there.

So, in other words, you have no problem creating a life threatening situation to report a life threatening situation.

Of course, like many (most?) here on PPOT, you are clearly just too damn good. Your own blathering on the cell while driving couldn't possibly threaten anyone else's life.

RANDY P 07-15-2014 08:41 AM

New cars these days have FB connectivity, text capability, all this useless ****.

They really should levy a HUGE fine for cell-phone driving, like $1k per offense.... That'll learn ya.

More enforcement of distracted driver laws would help. I doubt that angry juvenile behavior by motorcyclists is the answer.

Using a cell phone with hands free operation is legal in CA. I personally don't see a huge difference between talking to someone sitting next to me in the car or on a speaker phone. I don't stop watching the road and my mirrors.

You can go ahead and road rage all you want, then brag about it on this forum. You are free to do that, (until you get killed at least), and we are free to think you're an idiot. Isn't freedom great? :)

Really? You think there are enough police for that? c'mon. And People don't speed, now that we've had a century of speed-limit enforcement.
Education. People need to break bad habits before they begin.

Giant drivers screens (Tesla above) don't help.

Either party can wind up dead in this game. Smart people simply don't play the game. The risk/reward chart doesn't add up.

i was juvenile when i was a juvenile.

two lessons learned.

i did the exact same thing. very similar. this guy in a beemer convertible has some crap music up loud. the bug up my ass got irritated so i pulled up next to him. two brothers exhaust. i didnt rev the bike, but i kept it above idle. i was right next to him. he flips me off..i said !@#$!@%!%!..we leave at the red light. he was so mad, he pulls his car into me. i had to put my hand on his hood to keep from falling over. so..my bike and leg are hard into his car..hand on his hood..we go across the intersection like that. connected. i come to my senses, pull away from him. pull over on the curb. he races away. in san fran..nobody escapes. he gets caught in traffic..here i go. i race up. not sure what happened..but i was in his car. i pull him out. he looked like he was going to cry. something happened..i realized i was the dick that started it. i put him back down..i was still sitting on my bike..just my torso was in his car. i left him stammering. i promised to myself..NO MORE RAGE.

but nooooo..

i had my GF on the bike. (now wife)..some car runs me off the road..alittle. i flip him off..he then runs me off the road..A LOT. he came at me hard. i had to go up on the sidewalk. he tried to kill us. i parked..we got coffee..

never again. head down, keep to myself..ride defensive. level orange. zero offense. i almost got my wife killed.

the second lesson stuck. i am bike shopping now. no more loud exhaust for me. i'm gonna do a grown up version now. :D

you guys may proceed however without judgement from me. ;)

That's because you haven't noticed that your brain works harder to decipher the laggy, low-fidelity cell call than it does for someone sitting next to you. --likely because your brain is so massive, unlike the rest of us mortals, whose rest of the family don't all have phds. Man it must be cool to have such a great brain.

Really, they don't just dole out their righteous pimp-hand on every emotional whim?

Are you sure?

Looks like islet is looking for another pissing match speeder. I'm not going to bite. Have fun.
