I Can Be So Juvenile at Times...
Especially when I'm riding my Honda XR650L. Something about it just brings out the hooligan in me...
So here I was, southbound on I-5 on my way home today. Traffic is pretty darn heavy, but moving anywhere from 65-75 mph. The carpool lane is pretty wide open and, on a bike, we get to ride in it. I'm passing cars, just riding along, when I notice a youngish 30-something in his shiny new BMW 3 series; he's got the GQ look going, white rimmed sunglasses - and his i phone glued to his left ear. I don't know what got into me, but I suddenly decided he was going at just about the speed that looked right for me as well and, well, since there was no one behind me, I should just slow down a wee little bit. And while I was at it, move to the right hand third of the lane a wee little bit as well. As luck would have it, the outlet of my Al Baker's XRs Only pipe is right about exactly head level for anyone in a car. "Loud" does not even begin to describe the din emanating from that thing at freeway speeds. With my right hip just about even with his rear view mirror, that outlet was lined up pretty darn good - with his ear. Of course, he noticed this right away and sped up to close the gap between himself and the car in front of him. Darn it, though, that ol' XR gets even louder when I roll on the gas. He soon regretted his decision, and tried slowing down to get behind me. But, darn it again, I immediately noticed that I may have been riding too fast, so, in the interest of safety, I slowed down, too. Traffic was just heavy enough to where this poor guy was boxed in and completely at my mercy for well over five miles before my exit came up. I'm not sure he ever caught on that I was messing with him - I never looked at him, never acknowledged his presence in any way, other than to keep that pipe lined up on his head. I was still chuckling when I pulled into my driveway, shut her down, pulled my helmet off and pulled the earplugs out. |
Loud pipes save lives. Unless I'm on my R1100S and by the time you hear me, I'm already gone.

Good way to get your ass hit by a car...

The guy is probably posting on some other forum about the jealous old dude on the $8.00 motorcycle who was blasting exhaust at him all the way home. :)

I might be an ass, but I don't brag about it.

This place can be very cruel. SmileWavy

Just don't get it Jeff. Could have been a neurosurgeon consulting on an emergency case with a patient on the table. Can't think of a single reason to do what you did.

Morons on their phones, are one of the main reasons I've cut back on riding my bike. |
I Can Be So Juvenile at Times...
So basically you're bragging that you turned one asshat douchebag on the road into two asshat douchebags on the road. Got it. Good show. Way to make things safer and be the change you want to see in the world.

Ah, I love you guys. So predictable.
The fact of the matter is, talking on a cell phone while driving is not only illegal in Washington state, it has been found to be one of the leading causes of motor vehicle accidents. As a motorcyclist, I am particularly sensitve to the mindless idiots who seem to feel talking on their cell phones while driving is o.k. I'll assume that those of you responding in support of this ass hat fall into that catagory. I've lost track of how many times I have almost been hit by guys like you. When that happens, my reactions become much stronger than merely messing with you. I'll at least bust the rear view mirror off, for starters, and go up to kicking a big ass dent/scratch in the door or even busting out the window with my armored glove. Yes, I am that intolerant of this behavior. Yes, I have really done all of that. And yes, I have been run over by an inattentive driver in a pickup truck. So, maybe I'll see some of you cell phone yammering morons out on the road someday. I'm sure you will recognize me - I'll be the guy effing up your car. Oh, and by all means - I'm always more than ready to pull over and "discuss" the situation with you. |
If they made it illegal to talk on the phone and drive in Arizona I'd move.

Wait, I thought I was the forum ashooole this week!

Funny thing is, why didn't hipster boy just use the bluetooth like he's supposed to?
Not like the car doesn't have that... |

If a topic is that important that someone can run me head-on into oncoming traffic, perhaps ,maybe it is important enough to find a place to park and clearly communicate with the other party. |
This topic brings to mind something that I've noticed lately - past several years, actually.
I don't enjoy riding motos on public roads as much as I used to...too many folks on the phone and I am compelled to always be watchful and vigilant as never before...to the point where my enjoyment level has dropped considerably. . I've been riding for over 55 yrs. now and it's my notion that folks in vehicles are not as threatened by motos as they are by vehicles. |

The title did confess to be 'juvenile'. Jeez, this place is really becoming judgmental.

Sorry, I have to back Jeff up on this one. Dont know if I'd go as far as he would in dishing out justice, but I definitely agree with his frustration. Ive had WAY too many close calls on my bike because of some self-important schmuck on their phone. Plus I constantly see the result of those same drivers in my work, so yeah I'm very biased.
