Could you explain please?

If this was my kid he wouldn't be driving again until he could buy his own car and insurance and room and board.

Up here you get good points and bad points on your licence. You can accumulate up to 15 good points and get 33% off your vehicle insurance premiums (we have one insurance company here, government run) or you can collect bad points for driving badly. If you do so you get bad points on your licence and they charge you a surcharge on your licence. Every year you have a clean driving record the bad points are cut in half and you pay less.

This way the bad drivers pay.

What if they surrender their license? As for the damage, I'd guess $2900 USD.

Except for the government insurance company I like this.

I'm having fun imagining this kid with his left hand on the wheel, braking to turn into that alleyway, while holding the garage door remote in his right hand, clicking like there's no tomorrow...

...but it... just... doesn't... open... as... fast... as... he... hoped... it... would.

Or maybe the batteries in the remote had died earlier in the day.

Ahhhh, youth. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/chix.gif

It's my understanding if you don't pay, the points don't go away.

That wasn't his garage. He lives 10 blocks South of there. The garage is the reason for the second failure to exchange charge. Hit and drove off.

Call it what you want; socialism, communism or anti-free market, they pay a lot less then what we pay in "free market" Ontario :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Steve Carlton 07-23-2014 07:07 AM

Maybe they'll just give you the kid.

I dunno. Sounds like he needs a little work...

His parents may want to give you the kid...

I was stunned that the appointment with the insurance adjuster is August 1. Really? Nine days? I'd be pi$$ed. 3 days max, and that's only if a weekend's involved.

Definitely don't want him as a chauffeur.

A Winnipeg-style repair? I have been there!

700 Cdn, plus a two-four of Domestic beer.
You will have to drink(all of)the beer with the body shop guy, while sitting on 5 gallon cans, in the paint booth.
You will become friends for life(with body shop guy), going to the odd hockey game together, at the local community centre. Exchanging cards at Christmas, until the bitter end.

You did not believe him did you?

I ask because he either did not know the correct answer or he lied.

Fixed to reflect reality.

9 days for an adjuster?

Call them and ask for rental car reimbursement

GWN7 07-23-2014 03:34 PM

Truck is drivable.

I can't get it into the boy shop until Aug 25 so no big deal.

I had two 16 yr olds live here. Ate all my food. Drank everything in the fridge. Had to be yelled at to take out the garbage or do dishes. Would borrow one of the Porsches and never put gas in any of them. So, no thanks. :)

Clearly a mathematician didn't come up with that rule. If they had, then you could never get rid of all of the points. You'd always have a tiny little fraction hanging around forever.

I kind of like the plan, but wow, 9 days for an adjuster. That's impressive...

''ly horrible.

sounds like the kid needs a swift boot to the ass... or ten.

Be sure to post the answer to the question you asked. It will be interesting to find out the price. After waiting over a month to get into the body shop I hope they are really top notch.

There are no fractional points. It likely goes 6-3-2-1-0.

cashflyer 07-24-2014 09:14 AM

Google says $1.99 from Blain's Farm & Fleet
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406218392.jpg

May need more than one can, and of course the labor.
I'll say $4372.56 out the door.

As to the appointment for a adjuster, it's summer and they have government jobs. Holidays. c'est la vie

Known the owners for over 30 years. The current owner learned the business from his father and he and his wife bought the business from his parents when they retired. They do excellent work. They are closing down for holidays for two weeks in that period. I can wait, as it will look factory when I get it back.

I was doing some reading and "leaving the scene" is 10 points so the kid will have 24 points. Not sure how much his licence will cost but I'm guessing $3,000.

Here's a PFD on how it works here: https://www.mpi.mb.ca/en/PDFs/DSRBrochure.pdf

Pretty though but why should I pay for some Yahoo wearing a baseball cap the wrong way and texting while he drive...

wdfifteen 07-24-2014 08:03 PM

I think giving people a strong financial incentive to drive safely is a great idea. I don't know how you would implement it with multiple insurance companies, and I don't like the idea of a only single insurance company to choose from.

There is an insurance company in Quebec (Save on Car Insurance with Ajusto Technology from Desjardins | Ajusto) that will reduce you rate up to 25% discount base on you driving using a black box monitoring system. Probably not a good idea for a P car or for the paranoid.

cashflyer 07-25-2014 05:50 AM

The black box records data about how much conservative talk radio you listen to and this data is reported back to the IRS so that you can be targeted for selective persecution / audits. No thanks.

group911@aol.co 07-25-2014 08:42 AM

Insurance in and of itself is socialization of risk. We just feel superior because we get to pay big rates to keep all the blue suits dressed nicely.

No, that has been already cover by the NSA, unknown to you, had the "free option" installed on all car build in America...

Land of the free, oh well ;)

GWN7 08-01-2014 10:00 AM

Back from the insurance adjuster.......they are replacing the box side (internal structure damage).

The total damage is $4966.57 (taxes in)

billybek 08-01-2014 10:07 AM

Wow!
It is pretty easy to remove those fender skins.

Edit: The price is about right for that amount of work.
I was trying to say that it is easier to re skin that fender rather than try to repair it.
Cheers!

1990C4S 08-01-2014 10:57 AM

I was within $1,000...

Wait, was there an oil spill? Add $10k and eff you for not maintaining your truck.

vash 08-01-2014 11:02 AM

Missed it by 700!

CDN. This week the Greenback is worth a bit more. Next week it could be the other way around. :)

I'm whole now. I didn't get hurt, so my only out of pocket is my time. Police report (they came to me), drive to see adjuster (8 minutes from my house), two trips to the body shop (9 minutes from my house and I like them).

The day I take it in to be fixed there will be a rental truck waiting for me (0 cost to me) and I made arrangements with the shop to paint the other side of the truck (there is a few scratches on the top rail of the box and a couple of stone chips). So the whole back of the truck will look new. As the decal on the side will be replaced the truck will get a upgrade from 4 X 4 to Z71 :)
