..... And they said it couldnt be DONE!
So I bought the wife a SUV she had been wanting....... (nothing fancy..... just another bucket of bolts.... BMW X5)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406069602.jpg but the wood interior trim was old and kinda dated looking..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406069675.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406069791.jpg So I was looking to switch it over to a BRUSHED ALUMINUM LOOK....... The BMW guys said the console needed to be removed and from what I read THAT was going to be a major Surgery project and it was IMPOSSIBLE to to update without removing the entire interior to include the console and the seats...... I didnt want to do all that....... |

as you can see.... NOT very appealing....... wife no likey likey....... Sooooooo |
With a little patience and effort......
Brushed Aluminum....... WITHOUT removing the interior! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406070421.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406070438.jpg |

Very nice. The aluminum trim looks a lot better.
|
Oh yea, that interior looked trashed. Good thing you changed it before it got really bad.
|
thanks guys... i think it turned out OK...... not perfect by any means but it isnt bad.....
|
Is it real aluminium or plastic "aluminium"? Real aluminium has that awesome cool feel when you touch it....
Did you go new or second hand? I once updated the trim on a 2001 Audi A6 and when you start getting into it the number of variations from the factory was astronomical - something like 11 different finishes (3 of which looked the about the same to me - dark burr walnut). Then you have the other differences like single DIN / double DIN radio, LH drive / RH drive differences. Turns out also on that model the entire centre console (not just the trim) is a different width between the manual and auto models... Not something I would want to do again.. |
Good skills!!!

NZPorsche944s2....
didnt go new didnt go 2nd hand either..... this was done with a 3M Product.... its a wrap... amazing stuff. looks like brushed aluminum EVEN to the touch...... but its and wrap. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406077699.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406077718.jpg Bill Douglas it really REALLY was not attributed to any SKILLS on my part.... it was the product really...... maybe a lil patience on my part... but not skill based i assure you. but thank you non the less. Nostrill cheese: ya i wouldnt disagree with you. they were adamant that it couldn't be done...... even the DIY guys were in agreement....... either way, i didnt want to do the major surgery and i found a way....... Santiago..... man.... that lil man is a magnet for attention..... we cant walk down the street without someone commenting....... he is happy and growing im super happy to report! thanks for asking! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406078350.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406078402.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1406078515.jpg |

The 3m films are great. I've got carbon fiber on my snowboard and on my laptop. My laptop looks good despite being beat all over hell and back. The snowboard is only chipping around the edges, but that's a very abusive setting.
And cute kid!!! |
