Breaking News!
Pool water temp is 89.2 - right on schedule.
Ambient (shade) temp is down to 116'.
Just went for a quick dip - love it.

PetrolBlueSC 07-23-2014 04:43 PM

116° in the shade?!?! I would empty and then crawl into your fridge and only crack it occasionally for air. I would not be a good house guest.

Weird. It's was only 108 at that time here in the NW valley, which isn't too far from you (and the high is only supposed to be 112 here today). I think I overheard one of the local forecasters say this next week is likely to be one of the hottest of the year though. So, stand by!

Multnomah Falls. Beautiful. Mrs. Noah & I were just fancifully browsing through zillow last night. We could sell our place here in LA and have enough left over for a down payment on a wonderful home in PDX.

60 and raining in Portland.

You can have your nuclear furnace heat.

I'll take the rain and trees everywhere.

You can have your rain, more rain, bone-chilling damp cold, moss, patchouli, seasonal depression, attitudes, hipsters, traffic, bad drivers, Nazi gas station laws, high income/property taxes, and "progressive" politics, all while "keeping Portland weird".

I'll take the "nuclear furnace heat" for 3 months, and enjoy the comfortable shorts-and-t-shirt weather the rest of the year. I lived in the PNW for years and am plenty familiar with both locales.

Oh, and if the heat ever does get annoying here, we can get to cooler temps and "trees everywhere" in about an hour (driving). If you have more time, you can get to San Diego, Las Vegas, or even the Sea of Cortez in less than 5 hours by car. Where can you go from Portland within an hour (or even 5 hours) drive to escape the cold in the winter? :p

Noah930 07-23-2014 05:47 PM

Hey, with all this global warming and drought, soon enough the PNW will be balmy yet hydrated, and all the southwest will resemble those sun-bleached cow skulls.

I thought the same thing initially, but you get acclimated pretty quick. Central A/C is definitely mandatory though. I grew up in AK (Anchorage and Eagle River), and miss it (including the weather) much more than the PNW. The cold in the winter is fairly dry most of the time, so it's not nearly as bad as the constantly-humid cold of the PNW winters IMO. The summer nights were awesome as well. ;)

Nah, if all the alarmism is to be believed, the PNW will soon be underwater! We here in AZ should have beach front property in no time! :D

Water is really important. So is climate. You get what you pay for when it comes to location. :)

It's been cookin' here lately - I thought I was going to die today it was so hot. Had to come home and get my body temp back down.

Gotta pace yourself, keep hydrated, and know when to take breaks. It also helps to duck into some shade periodically.

Can't wait 'till October.....Florida is wonderful in the fall, winter, and spring. Summers not so much....

AZ has its good points. Flagstaff and Sedona are particulary nice.

I happen to like the cold. I grew up with one season, summer.

Its nice to see change up here.

Rick Lee 07-23-2014 09:36 PM

I didn't think it was so bad today, walking to my car in uncovered parking at around 3pm. My pool was 89 deg. last week before it got really hot and I only ever swim at night. It's raining now, which is pretty rare around here. Worst part about summer for me is riding the bike isn't a lot of fun. But for 8-9 mos. of the year, it's heavenly.

porsche4life 07-23-2014 10:02 PM

I've been in cooler climes the majority of the last two weeks. Next week is going to kick my ass.

71scgc 07-24-2014 04:42 AM

I did two tours in Germany.
I've had enough cold for one lifetime.
