No, they did a great job laying the infrastructure. The "****ty job" was done by the corporations charging too much for the service.

Interesting thing about those charts. It is all in percentages. Always dubious about charts that deal in percentages. |
Thanks, Toby. Yes, arguing with some people is certainly an exercise in futility; however, I hold out hope that if you point out someone's idiocy enough times, they might start seeing it themselves.

thats probably, in general there lasting legacy. even more than crumbling infrastructure. the death of the middle of class is a boomer thing, sacrificed to the gods of corporatism and supply side economics. |

The reality of it is, CP, how can you expect anyone to take you seriously if you can't properly (and coherently) present your message? The vast majority of job postings I've seen have called for "Excellent ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally." It really is important.
My step-son wants to be a writer. Problem is, his writing sucks. His stories aren't bad, but his grammar, punctuation, etc. issues make his stories all but impossible to read. He's a sophomore in high school, so he's still got time to improve. You're in your mid-late 20's. It's time to get started. |

"but we do text to much ..." its all the same ****. dodge the argument by trying to make the discussion about how ****ed up the baby boomers are, compared to the obviously and demonstrably more moral gen Yers, about my spelling. nice try. your still wrong. and yes i know i should have used you're instead of your, but i don't give a rats ass. http://media.giphy.com/media/kS1aph1nPE1lm/giphy.gif |
put another way ... if your only counterpoint, is that i spell badly, then you don't have a real counterpoint.
|
Not sure why you keep quoting "but we do text to much ..." (wrong "to" BTW)
So, you're willfully stupid; congratulations. Good luck moving up in the world and actually getting to a point where people will listen to you. Someday, it'll sink in...we hope. |
you need dumb .GIF to make your point as well. that's a home run

Some sweet irony in that rant. |
so, the best comment anyone can make in response, only rises to the thrid level. wow. im pretty impressed by the boomers, no wonder they handed us a **** world and refuse to help us clean it up.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...eement.svg.png i love in in PARF when folks mock my spelling or claim i live in my parents basement (which is the funnest of them all, but i digress). all they are really doing is saying they lost an argument to someone who is bad at spelling, or lives in their parents basement. congrats. you still lost. whats more, you lost to someone who doesn't spell well. way to try and prove you are better! hahahaha if you had a counterpoint besides spelling, you'd argue it. since you don't, you don't. |
ya can't fix stupid.

What is all this talk about facehooking and your twitterbead?
Why... in my day all we had to play with were rocks! And we are better off because of it! So... what happens after gen Z? Domed! We are all domed I tell you! |
This whole pedantic grammar checking is so pathetic. I once posted in a discussion about the usefulness of a particular degree. I was typing in a rush while watching a hockey game. Seeing as how I was/am writing in an informal place, where I am not docked marks for small grammatical errors, I thought it was ok not to proofread EVERYTHING.
Instead, I was called out for my error. I used friends, instead of friend's, in an internet forum... "We have college graduates on here (possibly post graduates) who don't know the difference between a plural "friends" and a possessive "friend's". I am not meaning to be mean or picky, but......what the heck?" When I see LakeCleElum and gacook pointing out such little mistakes, after they clearly comprehended cockerpunks post, I just think why do you guys even bother? Anyway, I'll get off your lawn now. Just had to get my ball. Nothing else to do as I'm unemployed and living in my parents basement. *Disclaimer: This post is not guaranteed to be free of grammatical inconsistencies." |
When you start pointing fingers at other "generations", you are part of the problem.

^^^^This!

If I were still dependent upon an allowance when I was 20-25 years old, I would have behaved a lot better, too.
|
hey Jeff, that reminds me. Can I borrow a few bucks until my parents get back in town? :D
|
Mine are gone, too. Kegger at my place...
Funny how every new generation thinks it is somehow "better" than the last, and how every older generation thinks the new one has gone to hell in a handbasket. Funny, too, in that both sides can produce "data" that proves it. |
In Cockerpunks defense, I couldn't give a crap about anyone's spelling or proper use of grammar. As long as a person gets their point across, that's all that matters to me.

Who cares about Generation Why? Not my generation. :p

I have no problem with an occasional grammatical error, misspelled word, or typo; however, when you've got somebody with an alleged advanced degree and who attempts to act intellectually superior to the rest of the world, I'd expect him/her to know basic English. The only exception is if English is your second language. I'm sorry, but it is a major pet peeve of mine when people cannot communicate properly in their native language, whatever that language may be. Hey, nostatic, what if I'm pointing fingers at my own generation? You're not part of the problem if you're attempting to fix the problem, are ya? Unfortunately, I AM GEN Y :( |
Wait, what if i'm pointing at a whole bunch O'different generations?

I am pretty down on hiring the so-called "millennials" after several first-hand experiences that did not go well. I've observed inability to separate personality quirks and emotions from business, laziness, attention deficit, naiveté, irresponsibility (excessive partying, tardiness for example), and lack of ambition. It's the over-coddled generation as far as I'm concerned.
Setting-aside all that, some of them are very nice people. ;) |

Gen-X'r here.
This is a true story of first hand concern of Gen-y'rs entering the workforce. My wife works for a very large semiconductor manufacturing company (not naming names). She recently went to happy hour with a friend and co-worker who is pretty high up in the HR department, and had a conversation about some of the problems they're having with the current generation of well educated RCG's being hired by the company. Like all big corporations these days, when there is a reduction in workforce, the company targets those who cost the company the most with wage and benifits, but with skill sets that aren't extremely unique, that can be replaced with RCG's. So the problem they are having is that these RCG's coming in don't want to work. Or, more specifically, they will only work on the things that interest them and they enjoy. There is no lack of education, inteligence or ability, they just refuse to do the parts of their job that they don't want to do. It's become such a problem, that they've had to form a high level committee to come up with solutions to address the problem without having to add headcount! This is the first time in the company's history that they've had this problem with a particular generation entering the workforce. I do recall the Gen-X'rs being labeled as slackers way back when. But from what I've seen, Gen-X'rs have been pretty successful. |

True story. Bout 8 years ago the company hired a engineer straight out of college.
I don't know which letter gen that is, you figure it out. Anywho, he worked here about a year and one day his boss got a phone call, from the young engineers mother. She was asking why her little angel hadn't gotten a promotion yet. So maybe it isn't the kid's fault, maybe if the fault of their parents' generation teaching them that their kids are entitled to EVERYTHING. |
