inexpensive cowboy boots. Ariats.
unbelievably, i find myself on a horse a couple times a year. riding a horse in lugged soled hunting boots is not fun, or comfy. you cant slip your feet in the stirrups easily with the grippy rubber soles, and big round toe.
i've always kept an eye out for boots. i know a man, that owns a pack station. awesome guy. one time running a black bear out of his grain bin, the man passed me at a sprint in cowboy boots..when the bear was gone and we were laughing and catching our breath..i looked down at his boots. he had white, fancy looking, embroidered boots. i commented and he said they were cheap Ariats. he did everything with them..fly fishing raging rivers hopping from boulder to boulder, backpacking up into the Sierras. i got a pair a few months ago in El Paso. $160ish..IIRC. i had some bad spell where the top of the boots chaffed my shin..but i either wore down the leather, or my skin got tougher. i think i can run with them. i wear work boots everyday, for work and these pass the safety guys scrutiny. i got the square toe, because they feel better for me. i dont need to kill cockroaches in the corners.. i know we have had a few cowboy boot threads..the talk always goes to custom made, high dollar boots. but for a cheap boot, i wont mind kicking concrete out of a wheel barrel with, or taking up a horse trail..i am stoked. (we take horses into the wilderness. and backpack out, trout fishing the entire way. i send my cowboy boots back out on the horse and switch to hiking boots.)

Made in China. If you're OK with that....great. I have a pair; I wear them when I may be stepping in oil because they have an oil-resistant all-rubber sole.
On horseback (which isn't very often these days, despite having 3 horses in the pen) I stick with a pointy toe with leather soles. I find them to be more comfortable for day-to-day wear as well.

My wife has horses... I have bills. Hence, work boots for me the 2x/yr I get on one. (She generally wears relatively cheap square toe Justin boots.)

Used to be Justin Reptiles for me.
Oddly enough now that I live 10 miles from Justin TX, where the boots are from, I prefer a leather J Toe Lucchese

Back in the day, when I was a was growing up in southeastern Montana, I preferred Justin Ropers. It was about the nicest boot we could afford. They were comfortable for work, and suitable for riding.

I have two pairs of Justin's, but my biggest customer by a wide margin when I bought them was a justin dealer... So I didn't feel like showing up in ariats would be wise.
I've heard the ariats are comfy though, I'd try a pair. |

My wife is 1/2 Japanese.
I was going to comment on how chicks wear boots for different reasons than guys do, but then I realized my wife's boots are, if anything, more dirty and beat up than mine.
