Airline Pilot Buzzes House...
FAA probe shows pilot buzzed mall, his house at 500 feet
Now he can go sit on his porch, unemployed, and ponder his staggering lack of good judgment and his arrogance while smarter pilots fly overhead.

Wow. That is beyond stupid. I can't believe he'd ever think that was acceptable.

Italian Cruise ship Captain decided to buzz a island in 2012. He only killed 32 people. What's a near miss among friends.

The story is confusing. It talks about buzzing the mall/his home in Dec 2012 and losing his certificate for a year in June, 2013, then says he got it back in February, presumably 2014. Were there two incidents? One that occurred in Dec 2012 and one recently? If not, are they trying to warn people that this guy has his license back? I don't get it.

The article refers to two different types of license. The one he lost he has not gotten back. Read it again.

According to the article he has.
"Draper's airline transport pilot certificate number was revoked June 19, 2013, .... Draper, now 38, does have his airline transport pilot certificate back."

For whatever reason this was just in the local paper this past weekend.
Salisbury is about 20 minutes from us.

I truly hope there isn't a carrier out there stupid enough to hire this guy ever again.

It sounded like the FAA finally issued a statement, which is why it's in the news again.

Airline Pilot Buzzes House...
The article says that Dec. 21, 2012 was Draper's last day flying for Piedmont... I wonder if that was determined before or after the incident. Maybe it was his last flight before being furloughed and he wanted to make a splash or whatever... Dunno. That'd be my suspicion based on the fact it took six months for the FAA to perform an emergency revocation of his certificate afterwards.
The guy is still an asshat (and I'm saying that as a Commercial Pilot and CFI). Basic FARs state an aircraft needs to be at least 1000' above the highest obstacle within a 2000' horizontal radius over a congested area (can be lower if necessary for takeoff or landing). Sounds like he may have violated speed limits too - limit is 250 knots indicated below 10,000' - article says he was doing 283 mph which is about 246 knots... Very close. Also can't be faster than 200 knots if below 2500' and within 4 miles of a "Class C" or "Class D" airport (not sure what this particular a/p is but most airports served by air carriers are at least Class D). Hair splitting over regulations aside, this guy is unsafe and I wouldn't want to fly with him. Not even in a simulator.
