Saw an accident today

Coming back from NYC on the Mass Pike, we're all doing about 65 in light traffic. I'm in the center lane, a few car lengths up in the left lane is a Mercedes SUV and cars to the right in both lanes a little ahead, one car on my right. In a maneuver that I couldn't imagine nearly any car could do let alone an SUV, it was almost immediately taking a right hand turn and instantly crossed the highway to the right lane, all right in front of me. In my rearview mirror, it hit the guardrail and that was the last I saw it.

It looked exactly like someone grabbed the wheel and yanked it violently to the right. And it was in the right lane in the blink of an eye.

Sounds like catastrophic steering/suspension failure.

That was the last you saw it? Are you telling us you didn't stop? You know, maybe to see if anyone was hurt, or if you could help in any way? Please tell us you did stop...

I saw a mitsubishi do that on I95 a few years back...The car ended up wrapped in the fencing from the side of the road and half sunk in mud.
It took a while to get the driver out, but when we did, she was fine and had no idea what happened.

No, none of us in the immediacy of the situation stopped. All traffic behind us stopped. Yes, I certainly would have stopped if I was a few more car lengths back and could have quickly and safely pulled over.

I wouldn't stop to go back to an accident scene on a highway as busy as the Mass Pike either. Moving against traffic to get back to the scene is a hazard in itself.

That sounds like what happened to me in the Spring. I'm driving along on a busy 2 lane State Route when all of a sudden, with no warning, my truck veers left between oncoming traffic and into a ditch where my drivers's side tire hits a telephone pole, and breaks the spring mounts, tie rod end, and shoves the front driveshaft (4x4 F250 diesel) up into the transfer case.

I'm really glad I wasn't hurt, but more importantly I didn't go head-on with an economy car that doesn't weigh 7000 lbs. (no citation because of tied up wheel bearing).

THIS.

Girl on my street rolled a minivan and slid 100 yards on the roof because her ringing phone was at her feet...the road is straight and flat.

Most are not accidents rather are Incidents or wreckcidents .
A accident would be a cow fell out of the sky.
Most these people just plain can not drive anymore.

Accident with some humor..........

A couple of days ago I was driving thru town and noticed a rollback and a local police car at a house. A car had been loaded on the rollback so I assume that it was a repo in progress with the cop on hand to keep things peaceful. As I was getting closer to the driveway, the police car started to back out of the driveway, got about half way out and had to stop for traffic. The rollback driver apparently didn't notice that the police car had stopped and smacked into the front of the police car! The driveway was pretty steep so the cop car got a pretty good whack! The cop got out of his car as I passed the scene and he did not look too happy! I wonder just how that got written up?
