another one who left - RIP Milo

I hate these threads. My cat Milo is near the end of his run. Age unknown - at least 15 as I adopted him as an adult back in '00 but probably 17 or 18. The last year + has been rough on everyone - lots of lost weight, lost sleep and cleaning up messes. This morning he was really struggling - rear legs not working well, very dehydrated. Drank a bunch of water, hid behind the toilet, threw up (clear), then later this afternoon/evening got some more water in him but he can't walk well. Have a vet coming tomorrow but probably will be the last goodbye.

I hate this part...

Embraer 08-08-2014 09:17 PM

sorry, man. this sucks.

Evans, Marv 08-08-2014 09:20 PM

Hated it when I had to put mine down at a couple of months past 20. However I could see she was within hours of dying. That was confirmed by the vet after he put her to sleep. I haven't gotten another pet since, & that was back in '07.

livi 08-08-2014 09:36 PM

Sad indeed.

Toby says "A big thanks for looking after Milo all that time and making life fun."

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1407565864.jpg

He was an ex-wildcat who was down on his luck, probably had about a week left but he decided I looked a good bet and moved in. We have been best buddies for the last six years. He won't live forever (FIV) but has a great time while he's around.

17 or 18 is not bad going, especially for an opted cat, well done.

recycled sixtie 08-08-2014 11:16 PM

Yes that is the hardest part about having a pet is the final goodbye. Sorry to hear about your cat. G.

Buckterrier 08-09-2014 03:40 AM

Sorry to hear NS. It is never easy.

Baz 08-09-2014 04:01 AM

:(

VERY sorry to hear this but you have to do right by the little fella....it's hard but he's had a long run so take some solace in that, Todd.

Thoughts and prayers to you and yours.

RIP little Milo. Sleep well.

Indeed....sorry to read this Todd.

Porsche-O-Phile 08-09-2014 04:21 AM

I know your pain and I'm sorry to hear. It's awful and the feelings of helplessness and self-doubt are the worst. All the best and I hope things work out well and don't drag out. All the best.

scottmandue 08-09-2014 06:36 AM

BTDT, so sorry Todd :(

Seahawk 08-09-2014 06:44 AM

The level of coolness resident in a great cat cannot be fully understood by mere humans, although I am sure Milo tried

Rest easy, big boy.

vash 08-09-2014 07:11 AM

bummer.

last night, while i was chasing "fergie" around last night with a screaming rat in her jaws..i was wishing for this day..

today? we're good. man, you should have heard the cursing as i was clorox cleaning up the trail of dripping blood.

Rikao4 08-09-2014 07:23 AM

crustychief 08-09-2014 08:05 AM

I am sure Milo has had a good run. Sorry to hear about his struggle.

nostatic 08-09-2014 09:15 AM

Vet came this morning. Before that I spent some quality time next to him on the floor. He could barely walk and couldn't keep his tongue in his mouth. Vet was great and it was a very peaceful event. God speed Milo.

Sad times all right.

When it is time for them to go, it's time to call the vet and we are preparing for that event.

Our 15 YO female cat had a major stroke a couple of months ago and has recovered more than we ever expected but we know that it is just a matter of time til she is in the same boat as Milo health wise.

Damn cats, one can get really attached to them.

afterburn 549 08-09-2014 09:45 AM

We with harts do what we can, and we can only do so much.
The guilt words should, could would, need not be applied.
You both gave each other warm times.
sorry man

Baz 08-09-2014 09:52 AM

Thanks for doing the right thing, Todd. Milo was indeed a cool customer (as all our kiddles are) and a great companion - who shall be sorely missed.

And for sharing - I don't know if I could do that - my heart is hit so hard - it's hard to even share stuff like this for want of the right words to use. There really aren't any.

Peace to you and yours brother.

john70t 08-09-2014 10:03 AM

Godspeed kitty, and condolences to the OP.

He had a long and good life.
Nothing more that anyone could wish for.

masraum 08-09-2014 11:05 AM

My condolences. I'm not looking forward to sharing the experience.

nostatic 08-09-2014 11:32 AM

Man, I am gutted. That cat was with me for over a quarter of my life. He was a bit of a pita - kind of a spaz, hid from strangers until the last year or so, and all of 2014 has been really hard as he struggled with digestive issues and rarely let me sleep more than 2 hours at a shot. But we're all a pita one way or another. My brief FB eulogy:

After a rough year or so and slow decline, Thursday night at midnight Milo wanted to have one last walk in the back yard. Friday morning he was weak and dehydrated, this morning the vet came to the house and helped Milo pass peacefully to a better place. Here's to a wonderful 14+ years together after rescuing him as an adult from a shelter in '00. Or considering he was always there through six different homes and two marriages, maybe he rescued me. God speed my friend. Namaste.

syncroid 08-09-2014 11:36 AM

Godspeed Milo. Sorry for your loss Todd.

matt f 08-09-2014 11:37 AM

Sincere condolences on the loss of your buddy.
Certainly sounds like he deserves to be mourned.

Matt

My deep condolences and godspeed, Milo. These wonderful critters do get under our skins, don't they.

rusnak 08-09-2014 12:19 PM

So sorry to hear about Milo. My little cockapoo has been with me almost 40% of my life. Strange when you put it like that.

Danimal16 08-09-2014 12:40 PM

Sad to hear. Great cats and great dogs are the hardest friends to let go of!

Best wishes to you and your family.

Dan

A tough time losing a pet member of the family.

Ferraripete 08-09-2014 01:06 PM

my best wishes go out to you and your family. it is tough to loose a great and loyal friend.

Halm 08-09-2014 01:44 PM

Sounds like you you did the right things from day one. That is why he was your buddy and got under your skin.

Godspeed Milo.

scottmandue 08-09-2014 02:08 PM

Just to add some levity to a very sad day in your life...
We have two very sweet female indoor cats, I put my foot down and said "read my lips, NO MORE PETS!"

So then we adopted Marshall:

Very sorry for your loss. Hate this part of being an animal caregiver.

Don Plumley 08-09-2014 04:08 PM

stomachmonkey 08-09-2014 07:40 PM

Sorry Todd.

trekkor 08-09-2014 09:00 PM

We know this going into the deal, but we choose to love them.
Cats are such a wonderful addition to our lives.
It's always heartbreaking when we lose them, because we chose to love them.
We will always be glad we chose them.

creaturecat 08-10-2014 07:44 AM

Heartfelt condolences.
Kudos to you for doing the right thing.
