Cops stopped twice at my house tonight...
I've been wanting to clean out the garage and finally got my shot tonight after dinner when it got below 100F. I pull everything out and proceed to vacuum the stalls. My Son was helping and out of the corner of my eye I see a Policemen had pulled up and was getting out of his car walking our way. The guy has a smile on his face and my son begins a conversation with him. I guess he knows my son through scouts. He admires the 911, looks at the 450SL, checks out the new/old pickup and basically spend about 15 minutes shooting the breeze. A great guy, says it was great to talk to us and is on his way.
About 2 hours go by and we have the garage gutted, cleaned, junk stowed in the attic and now we just have to reload the stalls. Up rolls officer #2. I guess the first guy at the end of his shift told 2nd shift about us. he comes rolling up and proceeds to visit for a spell. of course my son is talking trucks, guns, hunting, racing...all the while I'm thinking "this garage ain't gonna clean itself!" This one spent the better part of a half hour with us. I would have taken exception if the town we live in required some hard core policing but the biggest excitement these guys get is a partial sighting of a mountain lion. All in all I am very fortunate that I live in a pretty nice place and the cops are the old school kind that know your name and take time to get to know you as a person...

I like this story.
I have always made it a point to compliment an officer or fireman when I see them. "Thank you for your community service" or something like that.

I feel lucky in the same way. We live in a small town, and the local officer always makes it a point to stop by and talk to local business owners. He always lets us know if there have been any robberies, or anybody we need to know about in the area, tells stories about some of the calls he has been on recently, and just likes to shoot the ****. He is also a cool guy, races vintage dirt bikes, and loves to look at and talk about the cars that roll in and out of the shop .
I love having a good relationship with the local pd. You could say he is slacking , but you could also call it good community relations .

My local department was great...until they decided there were not enough of them (to fight the increased crime rate in my rural county...which is among the lowest in the US) and increased the size of the force. Next they had to raise taxes to pay for the new cops. Now, there are speed traps everywhere...because there really wasn't any crime and they have to justify their existience.

I live in a very small town (no traffic light, nor McDonalds kinda place) and the local cops, all both of them, like to stop by and show me the new toys they get, either personal or biz, and just shoot the breeze.
They have my cell phone number and do not hesitate to call when they get in bind due to bad weather. More than once have I had a chain hooked to a cop car or moved a tree for them to get through. I am much faster than going the proper channels. Good cops and good people can be the same person, my little town is proof of that

I have a commercial building in a small town, and often do maintenance late at night when the businesses are closed.
If I ever have a ladder leaning on the building after dark, a local cop is there very quickly, asking what's going on. I always thank them profusely for keeping such a sharp eye on my property. Good guys. All of them. |
