Went up to Monterey and Carmel for the weekend and took in the vintage racing plus some usual sight-seeing and just hanging out. Did not go to concours, (the track is more my thing), but saw a lot of the pretty stuff in town yesterday am.

Every minute of it was photo worthy, including the MC trip along CA. highway 1 both ways, it's hard to even put the camera away for a minute. I took lots of pics and there are a lot I did not take, like the whales jumping out of the water in Big Sur with hundreds of motorists pulled over in absolute awe. ![]() Here are a few, I'll add to the thread later when I have more time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Was the BMW in the first pic your ride, Dennis ? And is that a bed roll on the back, do you sleep out often on your trips? Nice pics, got to make it there some year. Cheers Richard |

Post#7: No, just the weekend. Post#8: You're welcome! Post#9: Yes. And it was the second time I've camped out in my life, other than sleeping in my car on a long road trip. It was awesome, want to camp again right away. Big Sur and Monterey are among the best places on earth for camping.

Great pics., keep them coming. My dad had the same BMW (same color) except that it had the full fairing.

Do US BMWs have an audible turn signal? When I was a kid living in France, I could hear my dad coming by the turn signal and him accelerating up the slight incline by the house. fond memory for me.

They only had audible turn signals for a year or two, I have another '79 BMW that has them but this '81 does not. They were not very popular with owners and many people disconnected them. Within a year or two, they were gone.

They do keep you from leaving your turn signal on for 5 minutes, though!

It is a bit of a sensory overload but amazing. Sort of like going to Florence and seeing all the great paintings and sculpture in that setting, mind is blown. I took video of some of these cars racing but it's not great quality, (iphone), nearly every car in these photos was raced over the weekend. I got to see a Ferrari Daytona and other "Holy Grail" cars being pushed hard into some corners and just flogged. Like I said, Amazing.

One big regret is that my phone died right when I hiked up to the top of the corkscrew on Sat. afternoon when they were racing the '66-'72 Trans Am cars. Penske Z-28, Boss 302s, all the USA pony cars being pushed hard where they raced originally with all period-correct equipment. Someone else is suppose to email me some pics, I'll post if I get them.

If you come back again next year, and I hope you do, add Thursday and Friday to your plans. There are very few people in the paddock and you can have the cars all to yourself. And, if you let me know you're coming I'll have a ticket for you.

I took my son a few years back and we ran into Jay Leno in the pits. Very cool. I definitely want to go back, especially on Thur/Fri....
