I've been turned in!!!!

Wow this is a whole new level of nanny-statish weirdness!!!!

I got this in the mail today, referenced was the license plate number for

not my 72 Targa, my 83 SC, my triumphs or my ducati,

but my 2008 X5 with 75Kmiles.

No, it doesn't smoke. Not even a little bit.

To be honest, I think it's fake. I don't think there's a concerned citizen out there who would call the 'smoking vehicle hotline.'

There was this one guy who got really mad one time when I used two parking spaces though . . . . . . . ;);)

nice, congrats. Some idiot probably called it in one day when it was still cold and blowing some water vapor. It probably took the state this long to get around to sending the letter.

stomachmonkey 08-16-2014 01:53 PM

Phone number checks out.

Smoking vehicle hotline: City of Fort Collins

May be just a friend messing with you.

Gretch 08-16-2014 01:53 PM

Worst part is your tax dollars are paying for this fookin utter nonsense........

HA!

Unless it's weed... You can smoke that. ;)

Steve Carlton 08-16-2014 02:23 PM

You probably cut me off in traffic...

vonsmog 08-16-2014 02:30 PM

Man I would be getting those everyday if I lived there! My Unimog likes to leave a nice cloud when its cold. But then it smells like food frying since I burn 100% biodiesel! But no one tailgates me, unless they are really hungry!

Gogar 08-16-2014 03:07 PM

That's what's funny, it's nothing. Just a 'voluntary' program to 'help you' fix your 'vehicle problems' 'voluntarily' because a 'concerned citizen' reported you.

Gratuitous use of 'quotations' is 'intentional.'

Yer on THE LIST now buddy.
Point of no return.
Satellites and roadside cameras all now have that car on special alert status.
Best thing to do is put on a fake plate, repaint, and sneak it to the crusher in the middle of the night.

Seriously though, if they have a convenient nearby branch office, it might be worth driving by and showing them.
Colorado has smog testing, iirc, and you might meet a good contact.

Por_sha911 08-16-2014 04:09 PM

Burn half the letter and mail it back :)

MT930 08-16-2014 04:15 PM

Thought smoking in Colorado was cool now ?

HardDrive 08-16-2014 04:18 PM

In Seattle, they have a program to turn in people who use the commuter lane on ramps. I got one of those letters. But I, errrrr, might have been slightly guilty.

Valve guide time- that's what it means.

Way back when they had emissions testing in Duval county (I lived in Clay without that crap) and was driving my VW Rabbit diesel PU, (it only had a hair over 450K I think) over to my girlfriends in Jax. Well I'm just cruising along (couldn't speed in that truck, by the time I got up to the speed limit, I would be at the next light. As I was cruising along, I noticed that a cop was behind me with his lights on.

First thing he did was inform me that my truck was smoking (typical shift point smoke, not bug truck smoke) and he wanted to see my emissions form and when I told him that I didn't have one, he started to tell me he was going to have it impounded, but when I told him I lived in Clay county (back then the license plates had the counties very clearly on the bottom, in FL.) he seemed a big agitated, then when he brought up that he observed puffs of smoke from the VW and I should get that checked out, at that point, I told him it was a diesel (and it even said so on the tail gate LOL) he got quiet and told me I could go on my way. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1408240621.jpg

your car produces the wrong kinda smoke!

livi 08-16-2014 09:56 PM

Fantastic!

onewhippedpuppy 08-17-2014 03:29 AM

There's something Orwellian about a hotline where citizens can report your car for smoking. Don't you already have to do emissions testing? If so, what's the point of having a hotline if the car already gets checked on a regular basis?
