Mythbusters...wait, WHAT!?
Apparently this was the last season for Kari, Grant, and Tory. A Google search turned up exactly no articles about why.
|
Probably budget cuts. Its not exactly cheap to film in San Francisco. Looks like Kari is getting her own show as well.
|
For those looking for a source, check the Mythbusters twitter or Adam Savage's twitter. Both have goodbye and thank you messages posted 15 minutes ago. No other color.

|
Post on Kari's twitter - show is taking a "new direction."
|
I've missed that show since I cut the cable... Netflix only has up to 2011. :(
|
All the myths are busted?
|
i hope it is not going to become another elimination style contest... or worse.
|
The show being cancelled will be the next myth they bust.
|
I lost interest in the show some time ago... seemed like the myths were getting more and more far fetched.
And every myth seemed to end with them packing explosives into whatever they were testing and blowing it up... not that there is anything wrong with that. |

They did have many good myths that they approached using the scientific method which was at least thought provoking... However, their segment on a plane being able to take off when on a covenyor belt made a believer out of me! :) -Z |
Me thinks the "problem" may be ego related.
I think Grant, Tori and Kari, mostly Kari, had become more popular than Adam and Jamie. Adam is at least fun and energetic, Jamie is just getting "old". No charisma or personality. Kind of the way Pawn Stars will go, apparently Chumlee makes more money from being involved with the show than the rest of them do. |
I think Grant, Tori and Kari, were all filler in the meatloaf.
|
Anyone remember The Secret Life of Machines.
I loved that show. All the episodes are now online. |

Adam and Jamie must have made stacks of money over the years.
............... I'm hoping they passed some of that along to the others. That always changes things so maybe they're all looking for something new. Whatever ... Good luck to all of them. I enjoyed most of the shows but the revisit ones could get tedious and pedantic. |
I loved the show the first two or three years, but lost interest after that. Part of the reason, actually, was all the other people other than Jamie or Adam. It got too hokey, the myths were too odd and the testing they did just downright idiotic sometimes. It got less and less scientific and more and more 'how can we just do some cool stuff'
I hear the new season is going back more towards the shows origins- Jamie and Adam doing smaller, more specific things. Really, I could just watch a show where those two guys build things and talk about stuff they've done the entire episode. |

James Burke is the man. Loved all the Connections programs when I was a kid.

When I was very little Bill Nye the Science Guy was my favorite.
Loved Connections. How It's Made, How Do They Do It, etc. are still my favorite things on TV besides Top Gear UK. Modern Marvels is good when it's not about food. I liked Mythbusters the first season but agree that the myths got less and less technically interesting, more gross with some explosions thrown in. But I really liked Kari. :) |
Wings on Discovery Channel was another one.

How It's Made, Ultimate Factories, Modern Marvels are my current favorites, but Connections always blew me away. I haven't seen it in 20 years, but I see it's on Netflix now and you can stream it on line. I think I'll do a Connections Marathon tonight. :)

I don't find this very surprising. It seems like the show has been losing some steam recently. It has been on air for a long time so that makes it even less surprising that they're finally making changes.

Just found this (old) series on human development.
He's much in the style of Burke, but circles around topics instead of random forward. The Ascent of Man The Ascent of Man - Watch Free Documentary Online (mirror) |
Wasn't real impressed when they first started and were doing the frozen vs unfrozen chicken in the aircraft windscreen. That was done so poorly I almost never watched again, but they did go back and retest some of the myths properly. I was one of the people that pushed them to use a fuel flow meter along with the computer on the fuel mileage myths.
Loved Wings and Great Planes on Discovery. I have most on tape but would love to buy them on DVD. I see Prime has Great Planes to download. Are these on NetFlix? |
batsheet crazy.

While there may be *some* interesting content - I just can't watch this show. Too much of the show is made up of "coming up next" "What we did last" "What we did the time before last" "What is coming up next after what is coming up next", etc...
Very little actual content when watching. It just seems to be a lot of fill to take up space to run more commercials. I'd rather read a book. |
