How do you not know?

That the tire is flat as a pancake while pulling out of the driveway.

Or when you start driving down the street.

Or as you turn into the next street.

Why don't you notice till half way down that street.

And when you finally do notice something is seriously f'd up do you drive it back?

All that does is burn the tire so now instead of patching the flat we need a whole new frikkin tire.

My wife is really frikken smart but sometimes she really tries to convince me otherwise.

Rant off.

yellowperil 08-26-2014 12:31 PM

That's not too serious. Why didn't you fix it before she left?

recycled sixtie 08-26-2014 12:35 PM

Ideally some of us walk around the car to make sure tires are inflated before driving off. Last winter I was coming down my back lane and 50 yards from home the tire went flat. The old snow tire was really old anyway. Tire wall destroyed. Replaced both rear tires on the Porsche and back to normal. Way back my daughter comes home in the Nissan Xtrail suv from univ. Drives about 3 miles home with a flat tire. No damage to tire and reinflated it after removing nail and fixing it. Go figure.

A lot depends on the age of the tire. From what I see the longer you drive on an old tire the wall gets destroyed. Newer maybe can handle it. Maybe a bit of luck too.

At this point in your post, I kinda figured you were talking about Mrs. Stomachmonkey... 'Cause Mrs. Z-man would have done the same thing!

The annoying part is she's going to need new tires soon, like in 3-4 months, so it does not pay to buy just 1 at this point.

No one even stocks the Pirreli's she has on there right now.

Really irritated.

I know how far she got because when I left to drop the boy at school you could see the drag marks on the street right up to where she hung a u-turn to head back home.

She parked it in the street and when I moved it to the drive to swap on the spare you could feel and hear it instantly.

I cringed the 15 feet pulling into the driveway.

sammyg2 08-26-2014 12:56 PM

Tire? Bah, peanuts.

Wait til she drives on the rim on the freeway for two miles so the only thing the rim is good for is scrap aluminium and it's a limited production factory wheel, and you can't get find a replacement without going to the steeler and paying $1500 for one so you end up replacing all 4 with aftermarket wheels.
For $1600.
Plus mouting and balancing.
Plus the cost of the new tire.

Grocery shopping.

Twice in 1 week....women in front of me attempted to place the conveyor divider behind her groceries.

Both times it landed half on and half off (hung up on the side).

FAIL.

Why?

They did not care. Didn't even give it another thought - just dropped it behind the groceries - in helter-skelter fashion.

Not picking on females because there are plenty of males that are oblivious as well.

Just an observation and commentary, FWIW.

upside..
she does inform me what those lights tell her these days..
service means service...
in years past they just glowed until something didn't work..
visiting me @NCO Acad. having driven my Z..
I noticed the alt. light on..
how long I inquired..

The low profile tires one my 944's came with on 17's, one night I went to make a right turn and found the tail just wanted to keep going straight. The tire didn't have visible signs that it was low, but it had about 6PSI in it.

Funny you should mention this. I drove off in my Trooper the other day and heard a whump, whump. Pulled into a gas station and checked the tires, Left rear was at 10psi. The tire looks like its inflated to over 30. These are large sidewalls as well.

Last big ticket item, I get in her car and pull out of the drive, apply brakes and holy hell what's that noise:eek:

She's says, yeah it's been doing that for a couple of weeks, was going to mention it to you.

I asked her if she was having trouble stopping the car:confused:

She said "yeah, it's not been great lately"

Hmm, about as long as it's been making that noise?

"yeah, that's about right"

And it did not occur to you the two issues were related, as in the brake pads are worn completely off and what you are hearing is the brake rotor being gouged out like the f'n grand canyon?

I parked on the side of our winding driveway a few mos ago, half in the mulch leaving plenty of room for her to get past. She goes out to get her haircut and it crosses my mind to say something, but c'mon it's a freaking Land Rover sitting there, you can't not see it. She comes home later and points out the long scrape/dent from rubbing against my plastic rear wheel arch. Wondered what that noise was but didn't stop to find out (and limit the damage to her car, mine was ok)

I can still remember doing a brake job at the service station I worked at in the 70's. A cream colored '68 Fairlane came in on a hook. The woman had driven it metal to metal for so long that a caliper piston had worn completely through one side of the disc and had become wedged in the middle, locking the wheel.

Just remember it's your fault and it's not about the nail.

I wouldn't be so hard on your wife. She's humane after all.

Gretch 08-26-2014 04:21 PM

run flat tires..........

only tire I will allow on my bride's ride.........

The vehicle I put my wife in has to be bullet and bomb proof, and "female" proof.

bell 08-26-2014 04:31 PM

I watched a lady in a big Mercedes suv yesterday do a u turnin the middle of a curve of a highly congested local road, when she saw me coming around the bend she floored it... hit the curb hard. ...I heard it and my windows were up with a/c on. ...
Not the smartest. .

Gogar 08-26-2014 05:13 PM

The answer to the question is another question, asked by the lady.

"How much can a stupid tire cost, anyway?"

That's what was going through her head as she drove it back.

This is not the worst I have seen. Just like stated above, I have seen them driven through the rotor, pads, and the caliper piston until it finally spit out, and either lost brakes completely, or wedged into the caliper bracket, and locked the wheel up .
The above photo was from a dude, and not a female.
