Scottsdale 2019 auctions

Anyone checking out the auction circuit this week? We plan on hitting Gooding and Sotheby’s Friday and Saturday. The lots sure seem to be lacking interesting vehicles compared to last year.

I live here in the valley and won’t be going. Too many people and not enough cool cars for me.

I may head to the Detroit Auto Show this week, or, more likely, the AutoRama (hot Rods/SEMA type show) in Detroit coming up next week.

I perused the auction results from Mecum Kissimmee. Lot of expensive cars that are so out of my price range. I will probably watch some of the Scottsdale auction as well.

I can watch the TV coverage for 30 minutes max. It gets old fast. I am a total car guy, but it just seems to be a show about how much money some people have to spend on cars. Great for them, but I can't ever imagine buying a car at an auction like that. The auction markup is high, and the chance to really know what you are buying is very limited. I always wonder how much bondo and chicken wire is under that fancy paint.

I thought the same thing.

I enjoy it for the entertainment of the bidding. Also like seeing cars I would never see elsewhere in person. It’s fun seeing the Mrs. get into the cars she likes. Unfortunately it is usually the 4 million dollar Ferrari...

I keep saying one year I'd like to check it out but it never gets past that. I see enough american cars at Carlisle to hold me over and I only get there every other year or so now. Used to go 2-3x every year. I do like to see variety but the the tv stuff is a bit over the top for me. I might fast forward through some a bit, but only if I remember to record some.

I went to Barrett Jackson 2 years ago. To me it was a car show with 1500 cars. I enjoyed it. The crowd was larger later in the week.

Funny thing about vintage cars, there aren't any new ones to change the scene...

I suppose its much like music ... some listen at home ... some go to concerts ... The auctions are definitely the latter ... be it death metal or Beethoven

My brother is coming into town ... We will hit Bonhams, Southerby's, Gooding, RM and the state fair (Barrett Jackson) ... We will dine well, drink well and enjoy the scene.

I will not bid for reasons mentioned previously ... but will fully enjoy the experience because I enjoy cars, the people involved and have not built a bubble about a singular way to gain pleasure in that space.

I like the BJ auction in small doses. Not going to spend all day watching. I did a Mecum auction in 2017. Very interesting to me. I was disappointed in the quality of many of the cars. I was also disappointed due to the lack of info on the cars. Most were a what you see is what you get deal. I may go again this year because I enjoyed the show.
