Bosch Washing Machines

Looking at a Bosch Nexxt washing machine. Totally different from any washer I've ever had, reading online reviews, some people love them, some hate them.

Anyone have one? Good? Bad? They are supposed to use very little water.

Can't help on the washer but our Bosch dishwasher has been trouble free for 8 or 9 years now.

I had one for two years and have only good things to say.

It's quiet (direct-drive beltless motor), swallows 8kg of clothes (almost too much) and has timer functionality that we use to let it run overnight.

Siemens has same innards, except slightly different design. I picked the one that was not profiled as eco-friendly as I read in some test that washing machines tuned to use little water do wash well but don't really rinse as well. Also, I liked the red LED display instead of backlit LCD.

We looked at them, they seemed nice. Ended up with an LG pair that we've been super happy with.

Thanks, I've read that you have to use very little soap on the eco-friendly ones. Going today to pick up a washer and dryer.

We got Miele's at the wife's insistence. Way too expensive but they're certainly the best washer and dryer we've ever owned.

Check the spin figures

We got a Bosch washing machine when we downsized to an apartment about 3 years ago.
It has been very good and washes workshop dirty clothes extra well. Water & soap usage are good

There is a bit of false advertising about "spin" times. A good high RPM spin will mean far less drying time. But on our machine, the 1200RPM spin ( which I bought the machine for) is NOT available on all wash cycles - but only on cycles that are hardly used.

So check your machine specifications for your commonly used programs, in case you are restricted to much lower spin RPMs than you expect.

Apart from this, we are happy with the Bosch

We have a Miele refrig and oven. They are spendy, but they're also really excellent machines.

10 years and our Bosch Nexxt Washer and Dryer are still going strong.

On the washer: I use about half of what liquid detergent is recommended (this is HE Tide) If I use the whole amount, the machine is unable to rinse it clean. If you keep the door open when not in use, you will not have any smell. Tide and Clorax make pretty good front loading washer cleaners that will be necessary if the door is closed all the time.

The Dryer: The lint trap catches a lot but I routinely vacuum the slot the trap fits in and I will remove the back of the dryer to vacuum inside the machine. Last time I did it, I noticed the belt around the drum is fraying so, I will probably order a replacement soon as a JIK. All the parts are easy to access and fix.

We have Miele waschmachine and dryer, expensive but VERY good.
The surface is coated with enamel(?).
The waschmachine has a button "Use more water" which we always press (cannot be turned to default).

One nice thing about our high efficiency top load LG - it has a door prop to keep the lid cracked. No odor. Simple but intelligent.

Thanks Stephanie, great info. I have read about keeping the washer door open, no problem for me.

Are there washers available in the US that heat the water? My washing machine is on its last set of drum bearings and I'll have to replace it soon. I liked the European washers that heated the water extra hot. Can you get that feature on any machine in the US?

I have an extra hot wash setting on the Bosch. I assume that means it heats the water.

Our Bosch dish washer has been a complete piece of junk. We have spent on repairs just about what it cost to buy the thing in the first place. I advise caution.

This has been commonly available here for at least a decade. If your clothes washer and dishwasher have that option, then you can save $ by turning the temp down on the hotwater tank/heater. (mixing in cold water for a shower is extra costly)

Oh, and Bosch makes some good product, and some cheap stuff too. (they are like Dell that way)

Huh? Are there washers that do not heat the water? Every machine I used had water heater, otherwise you cannot adjust the temperature to program you are using.

Usually, 60 deg. C is enough, but white sheets and towels might need 90 deg. C in order to be squeaky clean. Wool need 30 deg. etc. I don't know how this can be achieved without heater?

This is the one I have:

http://www.reevoo.com/p/bosch-logixx-8-was32461gb

Centrifuge is up to 1600 RPM max, (usually dialed down for sensitive clothes).
