This dumb old backhoe turns out to way more useful than I ever thought.

About a month ago, I bought a really beat up 2010 2500 hd with a popped 6.0 and bed that looks like it was parked under a loader more than once in its life. It is starting to clean up pretty good for a work truck, and I decided that it would be worth buying a bed if I found one for the right money. Instantly upon my decision to buy a bed last week, I looked at craigslist , and there was a perfect white bed, 3 tailgates, (one perfect, and two with minor dings), a tool box, bedliner, and bumper for a g note. Ends up , I knew the guy, It was 10 miles from the shop so I grabbed it up last weekend. Had this swap all planned out in my head this week. Took me 1.5 hours to remove the old bed, shuffle the new one into position and set it back down on the truck. I'm chowing down some dinner, and then I'm going to go out and bolt it all back up in a few minutes ...

				 | I did this 100% solo, and not a scratch , scuff or ding.

Good work man. Always satisfying to do things like this on your own.

Good job, Fred! Nice to have all that room to work too. Lot's of open ground. I do most of my work alone and prefer it that way. Mine could use a new bedliner and a couple rust spots repaired. For an '02 it's doing pretty good considering all the miles and stuff I've carried and towed with it! Love these Silverados! Thanks for sharing. PS - Good time to change out your fuel pump while the bed is out.....did you think of that?

As time goes on, you'll continue to be amazed how much help that dumb ole back hoe is (actually tractor w/ FEL & back hoe). Mine has an FEL but no backhoe, but I do have a box scraper, landscape rake, blade, & rear forks. My neighbor across the road has a big construction tractor w/ a back hoe, so I can get the use of it any time I want. Another thing that comes in handy is a hook on the loader. It can also get to be a slippery slope - sort of.

Good Job! Reminds me of an exchange between my old friend Bob Gummow and his wife when he told her he was going to buy a new backhoe. "What do you need a new backhoe for?" "I need it to build a new machine shed." "Why on earth do you need a new machine shed?" "Are you crazy woman? I can't let a brand new backhoe sit out in the weather!"
