High School Sexting...Son takes the high road, proud of him.

Last night I made my normal rounds to check on the kids. It was around 11pm. My Daughter was fast asleep with her dog nestled undercovers at her feet - normal.

I go to my Sons room and her him say 'oh my God' and I bust in without knockin. He says 'hey Dad'. I replied 'whatcha doin?'

'Watching Top Gear BBC' he says. Now I did hear background noise that didn't stop when I broke into his room.

'Oh, lemme see' so I took his phone. Sure enough Jerermy was running around London in a 3 wheel something and flipping it every 3 seconds.

I decided to see who he texted or got a text from. It's something I do often. He knows the drill. He also knows I can access any and all texts and pics for that matter.

I open it up - he never cleans his cache. He has texts in there from last year. I look at the most recent and sure enough he got one about an hour prior. It was from a girl. It went:

Her: 'hey, your hot )))'

Him: 'ok '

Her: 'nudes 4 nudes??'

Him: ' na,I'm good'

So I asked him about it. I guess it's a girl he knows from school. I asked what she meant.

'Seriously dad? She wants to exchange naked pics of eachother.'

'Get out! Really? You guys seeing each other ?'

'Nope, I just know her from last year.'

'And she wants to get naked for you ?'

'Dad, it's not the first time I've been asked to do that and not just her.'

'What the heck is wrong with her? You don't ever send one did you?'

The look one his face was of horror. Now I know my son and his tells. He isn't a saint but he also can't lie very well to me. He never has been able to. I think he has learned that if he tells the truth up front rarely does he get in trouble but when I catch him in a lie the boom gets lowered.

'Oh my god Dad I would never! F@@@ that!' Right then he dropped the F bomb which made my eye brows raise.

'Opps, sorry.' And he knew he used the mother of all mother swears.

'I don't wanna be caught and tagged as a sex offender. No way! Plus they all look the same Dad. It's no big deal to see them naked. And what type of girl would do that anyway? Some skank.'

Now here is a kid that is gunning for straight A's, works a few different jobs and really likes nice things. Really nice things. If anything was bad to say about him it's that he is materialistic. He is determined to be wealthy and he's calculating enough to that end to not make foolish mistakes. I think.

'Well buddy, your better than me!' As I thumb threw his year book and spot her pic. 'Shes really cute.'

'Ya until the Feds shows up at her door.' He says. 'Its not worth it Dad. In a few years I'll be rolln in my Bughatti with a dime at my side that no one but me has seen naked. I don't wanna give it out to some teen ho.'

'Dime? What the heck is a dime? Bughatti! No Italian crap in this house mister'.

'That means a 10 Dad. You drive what you want and I'll drive what I want.' He said smiling.

Hmmmmm. Ok for now. I guess. But I have him notice that if / or when he does anything foolish that he will regret then the only Italian sports car he will ever own is in Matchbox form.

Safe for now - but he has told me about the pics bring circulated. Scary.

A good friend is the principal of a nearby high school, the largest in KS. I've had drinks with the priest at the Catholic High School that my kids will eventually go to. They have some stories to tell, sexting is just the tip of the iceberg. Teens and sex is nothing new, this is just a new form that's a bit harder to catch.

I know. He's told me stuff before that I can see happening. Kids with the opportunity, means, motivation. Sex is a very strong drive and at this age it's more powerful than sleep or food!

I can't really blame these kids - I can see most of us doing all that they do as well if given the chance. The frequency today is greater and the ramifications are greater.

Another reason to keep my daughter very busy!

It's nothing that didn't happen when we were in high school. Just a different form. Horny kids are horny kids, you just have to hope that they aren't stupid about it.

Don't know many priests, do you? Most are very interesting guys to have a drink with. If you have an objection to drinking and religion, you obviously don't know many Catholics.

Just know my childhood upbringing of strict religion - Admit it's been many years....Very taboo back then. I certainly have no objection to Drinking.

Check out a phone app called tinder, you basically swipe yes/no to girls (based on pictures) and they do vice versa. If you both swipe yes, you can initiate contact with them and you both know that there is mutual attraction. It has to be the easiest way to hookup with a girl at college (so many girls are on there), and probably the only way to do it while on the toilet.

Some of the girls are sooooooooooooo slooooooty though.
