Attn: Audiofiles RCA Plug Help
I'm trying to get an old Adcom Amp going and it looks like the outer part of the RCA plug got pulled out when the cord was removed. Is there a way to replace that...I have no idea how to search for that part? Any thoughts thx!
Here is a pic of what i'm talking about: ![]() Thanks for your help! ![]()

That's a easy fix if you can operate the soldering iron. Open the amp and see how they are secured to panel. If they aren't soldered directly to PCB then it's just a case of unscrewing those two bolts and replacing them with generic RCA-connectors of "screw type" and soldering back the coax on them. (theoretically, you could replace them with stock RCA item if you can look up the serial number)
If they are soldered directly on PCB, you can either snip/desolder the legs and then try to mount the generic contacts or just drill two additional holes above them and mount two new RCA's, soldered in parallel to old ones.

I could give you list of websites or if you don't mind driving to Torrance these guys should have what you want:

thanks!
There is a wire that comes off the circuit board and is soldered to the plugs on the back. so it sounds like i need to replace the whole setup. I also emailed Adcom for kicks to see if they respond for this 30 yr old amp. ![]()

Likely don't need it, try the RCA connectors anyway. It's a shield, and will be connected when plugged into another piece of equipment. That is an input, the source cable(equipment) will complete the connection at that end.
In fact, some cables don't attach ground in order to prevent ground loops. If not, (might be some humm) wrap a bare wire between the two shields. Last edited by dad911; 09-14-2014 at 11:59 AM.. |
