Our 62K Week Stem Cell Transplant
We just got back from the Dominican Republic for our Medical Vacation. We had a team of Doctors from Canada, USA and a Plastic Surgeon from the D.R. All went well and we are hoping for positive results for our daughter. Wife and I donated along with our daughter to herself. They extracted from our hips and we were the first 3 donor transplant with something like 1.6 Billion stem cells planted into our daughters lungs to start replacing her C.F. cells with healthy lung tissue. Here is a link to a Google slide show
https://plus.google.com/112810302948537548803/stories/be8f2960-93f3-3f22-a548-41188cd03481148739fc8a2?authkey=CMqb1PqvhJynqwE And here is a link for donations if you so desire. We will need a second transplant most likely if all goes well. My Daughter Needs A Transplant And if you are ever given a chance to donate bone marrow please do it. Oh yes I am still sore and have a hard time walking but it is nothing these kids go through. Thanks for caring.

Our 62K Week Stem Cell Transplant
Best of luck - hope it works out!
Out of curiosity why the D.R.? Too expensive in the U.S.? Not allowed? What? Just curious. Beautiful pictures (beautiful place) and all the best - I just know next to nothing about this and want to edumicate myself.

It is not APPROVED for C.F.......It is approved for cancer and some other issues in the USA. The Doctor is from Florida and we are told up front it is not an approved for her illness in the USA. This Doctor rents a wing of the 4th floor of a private hospital in the D.R. where he owns all of the lab equipment separate the cells and manipulate them so they will divide and adhere to her lungs. We see the $60 K as being split by a select team of Doctors not to bad as we are paying them to fly to the D.R. for this select procedure. The anesthesiologist is certified in critical care as most of the patients are on their last leg of life.
The Dr. did a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections in my arm for my Tennis Elbow. This was at no additional cost to us as he said we rented him for the whole week.

The D.R. is a great place as as we had been there on vacations before, Yes the hotel was great but this was not a vacation. All of the patients stay in the same hotel with the doctor and his staff as they do check on us several times a day. The hotel had FREE beer but due to the 2 procedures they did on me I was not allowed even 1 beer.
