Yup! The 914 Forum was huge here at first, the 911 Forum was fairly dead. It took quite a while for the 911 to pass the 914.

Many of the old timers in thread are 914 guys - JP Stein, John Rogers, Campbellcj, etc. A lot of others too, Dave Darling, sammy, Joe Bob, etc.

There used to be a 914 webpage that was very active, most of these guys posted there, I think. I wish I could remember the name. It was pretty early in the Internet, it was one of the first webpages that I remember seeing, and was for sure the first I ever participated in. It was around 93 or 94.

Gee, my initial join was October 1999. I was back on PorscheFans....earliest post I have in my archive is Jan 31, 1997. Was a founding member of Rennlist not long thereafter....got my founders card somewhere in there.

But then again, the internet was slower then, the smoke signals sometimes didn't move all that well.

Must admit it causes one to do the arithmetic about how much time have I wasted, what benefit have a gained with all this stuff. I would argue that I was more productive in my Porsche work before the internet (early '90's) than I am now.

This whole thing may be a net loss...sigh.

That two weeks you have on me really bumped up our average, though... :)

What am I? Chop liver?

The 914s always needed more work that the 911s. The 911 guys were ugly rich bastages with tiny wee-wees!

Until I bought one! :p

That's what I was thinking!!! I didn't "officially" join until 2005, so I'm a NOOB, but I did some lurking in 2002!

Got me by a few months... joined right after buying my 73.5T targa.

10 years and some months of mostly lurking, even after selling the 924S.

I keep hoping there's a 951 in my future someday.
edit: Wow I must have joined here third. I found RL first, Clark's Garage and then here probably after buying a whole lot of parts. The 924S was basically free because the previous owner didn't understand timing belts and what that meant for his car's health.

DonDavis 09-16-2014 11:09 AM

I found this board in early 1999.

Didn't officially join till Mar-2002.

DaveE 09-16-2014 11:25 AM

I was here pretty early on, then left for a few years. I came back when I bought the SC but I forgot my original user name.

Closest date so far (Join Date: Mar 1999)... Maybe Wayne can settle this one.

"Pelican Parts was started in 1997 by veteran Porsche owners Wayne Dempsey and Tom Gould. Our goal is to provide affordable Porsche Parts and accessories to enthusiasts worldwide. Our customer focus is on the weekend mechanic - the fellow who loves to tinker and restore his Porsche at any chance he can get."

J P Stein 09-16-2014 07:12 PM

Sammy was here before he had a lawn and before he knew you couldn't turbo a 914.

campbellcj 09-16-2014 07:33 PM

I can't remember when these forums first started-up, but I do remember back when I'd call up Tom and then drive down to their first little hole in the wall warehouse and pick up new or used parts in person.

Interestingly after a many-year hiatus I am back on Rennlist now as the newer cars are much better represented there, as well as on 6speedonline, compared to here. The fragmentation in online communities is kind of unfortunate in a way but on the other hand, provides some choice and diversity.
