Better than K&N!!

What could possibly be better than the marke....er, engineering genius of K&N, you ask? This. The open gullet. Harleys eat leaves and twigs and schit out mulch.

This was parked on my street the other day and yes, someone moved out and left their old mattress on the sidewalk.

Hilarious, still. Especially the sticker on the bike: Ass, ass or ass. Nobody rides for free." :D

varmint 09-17-2014 07:36 PM

bet it sounds awesome

Bill Douglas 09-17-2014 07:44 PM

I'd be tempted to sneak out at night and put an air cleaner on it.

Jeff Higgins 09-17-2014 08:08 PM

I know Denis is proud of his bike and everything, so I really hate to pick it apart. But, there is another purpose to the aircleaner on these bikes, beyond keeping crap out of the motor. It serves, in a large part, to hold the carb onto the bike. You see, the carb bolts to a small "Y" manifold, but that manifold is only held to the heads via two hose clamps that compress a couple of o-rings. It's pretty free to just flop around and fall off until the aircleaner is bolted to the carb. The aircleaner is then supported by a rather substantial steel strap bolted to the back of it and running down to the forward cylinder tappet block mounting bolt. It's the only thing that adds any rigidity to the whole works, and the only thing that really keeps it all in place.

You should get that fixed, Denis. Oh, and how in the hell do you shift that thing with the shifter sticking straight up like that?

speeder 09-17-2014 08:14 PM

It's not my bike, dip sheiss.

I just thought it was a hilarious example of what someone thinks a motorcycle should be.

Nostril Cheese 09-17-2014 08:15 PM

This is almost like this black 996 I used to see driving around. Had a mangled front end. ;)

Jeff Higgins 09-17-2014 08:23 PM

Don't be so modest, Denis. This is clearly some of your best work. It's got "Speeder" written all over it. The mattress, too.

Bill Douglas 09-17-2014 08:26 PM

Yeah come on Denis, there's nothing wrong with wanting a bit of ass.

Jeff Higgins 09-17-2014 08:27 PM

I just wonder how he carts that mattress around on the bike.

OK but it begs the question. How long could a motor run OK without and air filter?

The local Jap Import Boys runs super thin foam filters. I always wondered what would be the long term effect of that would be.
Not that I intend to do the same.

Nothing gets past this crowd.

I'm not saying this is the case here, but you are supposed to put your mattress/couch/big items on the sidewalk. But you're also supposed to call trash pickup and notify them. They usually tell you to put it on the street the week of "xx" and "we'll be by to pick it up".

speeder 09-17-2014 09:15 PM

Dave, pretty sure that's what we're seeing in the photo. Still looks awful, though. :)

slodave 09-17-2014 09:22 PM

I know. I live on townhome/condo/apt row. Always a TV, couch, and mattress lying around. I think I've become somewhat immune to it. :D

Heel n Toe 09-17-2014 09:22 PM

"Ass, ass, etc. No one rides for free."

So that's why the mattress is so close?

Forgive me if that's a stupid question... there's a lot of things I don't understand about California.

McLovin 09-17-2014 10:47 PM

Apparently you have to pre-pay, on the spot, before your ride.

I think that bike is classic! I could so rock that around my town...crack'n that throttle while rock'n a Brooks Brothers polo and a pair of Ray Bans!
