Sounds like the entire planet is at risk if that one blows big.

There's not a thing anyone can do about it. NK only cares because Mt. Paektu is the mythical birthplace of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and they need to figure out some new spin for the propaganda machine. They couldn't care less about their people or the environment. Though I sure hope those British scientists are spies and we get some good intel out of this.

Wasn't there a recent 'sci-fi' flick in which the N. Koreans set off a nuclear device to 'pre-empt or minimize' any of the anticipated devastation if this thing blew?
What if there is some nut-bar running the show over there considering this a viable option. In all seriousness, at the end of the day, this volcano & its potential magnitude is just cause for international concern. Cheers JB

Nice lake. I wonder if they have any trout in it.
That's nature. It ignores even the nuttiest of dictators. |

$5 says they pitch it as the Dad, former dirty, angry because people aren't productive enough. They'll be fine though, according to Kach natural disasters mainly happen in republican majority states.

D, they look at the sediment of the surrounding area. They can date the sediment layers and estimate the date it happened. That is the basics of geology. They may well have records from the Chinese. There are records from 240 BC from Chinese, Babylonian sources of Haley's Comet. Obviously they did not know we would name it after a scientist that was not born until 1656.
