iOS 8 Who has it?

I used to be able to delete individual texts in iOS 7, but see no way to do it with the new upgrade. The procedure works the same but no 'trash can' pops up. Anybody know how to do it?? That is THE most important feature to me!

and the new photo albums SUCK...

rattlsnak 09-18-2014 05:17 PM

nevermind.. I did a reboot and it appeared and the old way works now again. The first of many glitches I'm sure..

stomachmonkey 09-18-2014 05:39 PM

I've learned to wait a week.

Scott R 09-18-2014 06:44 PM

Downloading now, says four hours. Their servers must be slammed.

Shaun @ Tru6 09-18-2014 06:47 PM

I updated today via the prompts. Took 10 minutes. I don't know what's different other than a few minor tips. I can still make phone calls and send email and text and use Waze, so all is good.

GH85Carrera 09-18-2014 07:02 PM

I installed it last night. The new text prompt spell checker guessing feature is going to take a while to get used to.

stealthn 09-18-2014 07:09 PM

I like audio text and the text helpers while I type this. Apparently there is issues with HealthKit so it wasn't included....I am most happy our Mdm client doesn't require location services to wake up and checkin it can now do a background app refresh. Still looking at how to enable cross application integration.

masraum 09-18-2014 07:31 PM

I haven't installed yet, but I hear that Swype is now an option if you've got IOS8. That's the best reason to upgrade!

I've already disabled that feature. I couldn't stand it. It twice a s long to write a text because you had to look through all the words to see if one was there that you wanted. It's just easier the old way when it spell checked you.

And did I mention that the photo albums SUCK?? I hate that all my pictures aren't available in one place anymore. Takes forever to find something now.

Don Plumley 09-18-2014 08:50 PM

I have it on my iPad and iPhone. I like being able to swipe to tag emails, otherwise have not dug into new feature. BTW, if you install through itunes it is much faster than through iOS directly. Easier to delete stuff through iTunes to make some space for the 1Gb download too. Kept my free U2 album though :D

cstreit 09-18-2014 08:53 PM

Underwhelming. Ios7 was a nice bump. iOS 8 only has one feature I like this far. Flagging certain emails so it notifies you when there is a response.

I'm still on 6.

Holger 09-18-2014 11:01 PM

Installed it on our iPad2 yesterday. Have not really tested it yet.

Porsche-O-Phile 09-19-2014 02:38 AM

Staying on 7.1.2 for now. I'll upgrade if a jailbreak comes out for 8 before 7.1.2 (and I don't trust that Chinese one that's floating around now so I don't count it)

Porsche-O-Phile 09-19-2014 03:01 AM

Change for change's sake.

The whole IT world buys into that idiotic mentality. Once in a while something actually gets better but it's the exception rather than the rule.

Amen brother! I just bought a new laptop with Windows 8.1.......sigh. Somebody desperately needs to reign in the IT guys and software engineers, because all of these new operating systems just reek of engineers gone wild. There needs to be a common sense filter that I'm just not seeing, be it on Apple or Microsoft.

Downloading as we speak. I was shocked when I tried to do it via wi-fi when it told me I needed 4.6 megs of free space--so I plugged in to my computer and am downloading it through i-tunes instead.

Stay tuned.

Ditto. I heard too many horror stories about 7 and don't have enough space left for 8. I liked 5 the best.

Shaun @ Tru6 09-19-2014 05:52 AM

I must have the wrong kind of microwave because I just tried this at 23% battery life and it only went to 26% after 60 seconds. 200 seconds it only went to 31%.

I just upgraded to 8. Nothing exploded. I'm bummed that my iPad doesn't have the "Wave" charging system built in!

I'll be buying Swype later today.

There's your problem - from 200 seconds to 300 seconds the turbo kicks in. Now, be careful, on some tests the phone has charged up too quickly, spun out of control and hit the microwave wall... causing some disgruntled users to label this feature 'the widow maker'. ;)

Shaun @ Tru6 09-19-2014 06:28 AM

I guess good timing for having broken up with my gf. She'll be happy.

Scooter 09-19-2014 07:47 AM

Downloaded as soon as it was available. Took a long time to download and install, but I believe it was well worth it. My iPhone 5S is running better than ever and I really like the improvements.

Rot 911 09-19-2014 07:55 AM

Updating right now. Been about 35 minutes going through iTune library

Don Plumley 09-19-2014 07:56 AM

I'm looking forward to Handoff with Yosemite - I do this all the time, start a task on my phone that would be better on my laptop. Also being able to answer a call on my computer using my wireless headphone (one less thing on my desk). I updated the Medical ID that's accessible from the emergency screen, I like that idea too.

You're not supposed to put metal in the science oven.

That was a good movie! It held it in my hands to protect it. Maybe that's why it didn't charge very well.

Rot 911 09-19-2014 08:50 AM

Took about 40 minutes start to finish. I'm already liking some of the changes. Especially using voice typing.

M.D. Holloway 09-19-2014 09:40 AM

I tried the microwave thing to charge my phone and all I got was a flurry of sparks and a really bad smell after 10 seconds. I figured that the system was purging (like what SeaFoam does to a carb) so I kept it in for 230 seconds. I didn't want to do the full 300 to be on the safe side.

Seems to be ok. I figure after the charging I would let it breath for awhile so I haven't tried to do anything with it. I haven't gotten any calls yet to test it and it seems like the emails have really slowed down. Maybe because its Friday and folks are gearing up for the weekend? Maybe because its lunch time?

Anyway, thanks for the tip Shaun!

Should we use the cook or the re-heat setting?

Popcorn setting. Use the bag setting that matches your screen size. Ex: 3.5 oz bag of popcorn setting for a phone with a 3.5 in screen. It's finished charging when you have a 2 second lapse in ring tones going off.

porsche4life 09-19-2014 11:41 AM

The smoke alarms will beep and tell you it's done!

iOS 8 Who has it?

Just punch the "potato" button twice. Worked for me on the 5s (the "s" is for "SMOKIN' fast"!!!)

They should all be under "Collections" now.
